Adult Swim's Toonami Block to Air Casshern Sins, Deadman Wonderland
Adult Swim, the cable and satellite network that is paired with Cartoon Network, is listing on its schedule that it will air the Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins television anime series on Sunday, May 27 at 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., respectively. The schedule lists that both series will then air again at 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.
Jason DeMarco, former Toonami producer and recently promoted vice president of strategic marketing and promotions for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, confirmed this schedule on Monday via his Twitter account.
Adult Swim had announced last Wednesday that it would bring back its Toonami programming block starting on Saturday, May 26.
[Via Toonami Podcast]
Update: Adult Swim's entire anime schedule for early morning May 27 is as follows:
12:00 a.m. - Bleach
12:30 a.m. - Deadman Wonderland
1:00 a.m. - Casshern Sins
1:30 a.m. - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
2:00 a.m. - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
2:30 a.m. - Cowboy Bebop
The schedule then repeats between 3:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.
DeMarco added that Toonami will not be showing Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, and similar titles since "the rights to those shows are owned by our competition or are out of our price range." He continued, "Something you should know about THIS Toonami: We have very, very little $$. This experiment will need ratings success to receive more funding for new shows, more [mascot character] Tom animation, etc. I'm thankful for the $$ we've gotten, but it isn't a lot."
DeMarco also clarified Adult Swim's May 16 press release, which said that the network is developing "new original anime programming" for Toonami's return. Toonami will not have original titles created specifically for the programming block, "just new acquisitions." DeMarco said that he personally "love[s] One Piece and would love to see it on CN again" along with Gundam Wing. Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Fairy Tail, and Inuyasha: The Final Act are some of the "many shows we've been looking at" or discussed.
DeMarco confirmed that Steven Blum will reprise his role of Tom, which "will be an updated hi-res version of Tom 3.0" aboard a slightly different but almost identical version of the spaceship Absolution. However, the character Sara will not appear for now ("costs too much to make"), and Peter Cullen will not be the voice of the block's promos due to his busy work schedule. The anime titles will keep their theme songs, and Toonami "will make our own 'pre' intros."
Death Note/Kaiji Composer Taniuchi Arrested on Marijuana Charges
Hideki Taniuchi taken into custody for allegedly possessing cannabis worth US$110
Police in Kanagawa Prefecture arrested composer Hideki Taniuchi (Death Note, Kaiji, Otogi Zoshi, Aoi Bungaku Series) for possession of dried cannabis on Tuesday. According to the prefectural police, the 39-year-old man asked to speak with a lawyer and has not provided a deposition yet.
Police reported that Taniuchi was taken into custody from his Yokohama home at about 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. He was allegedly concealing a pipe and 1.5 grams (about 0.053 ounces) of marijuana valued at about 9,000 yen (about US$110) in his second-floor living room.
Authorities went to Taniuchi's residence after receiving testimony from a Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) employee. Kanagawa Prefectural Police had arrested 36-year-old Miki Teshima on Saturday for marijuana possession. Teshima claimed that she received the marijuana from Taniuchi. According to police, Taniuchi had been giving Teshima marijuana for five or six years.
In addition to composing music for television anime series, Taniuchi performed opening theme songs for Hajime no Ippo (Fighting Spirit) as a guitarist in the rock band Shocking Lemon.
Police in Japan arrested Kamikaze Girls author Novala Takemoto for cannabis possession in 2007. Police also arrested Tsuyoshi Kosuga of cro-magnon, the musical group that co-composed the soundtrack for the Hyouge Mono anime, for similar charges in 2011.
Live-Action GTO Remake Confirmed with EXILE Member Akira
Miori Takimoto co-stars in story of gang member-turned-teacher; Hitomi Kuroki plays principal
The producers of the GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka live-action television series remake confirmed on Wednesday that EXILE band member Akira will star in the series. Akira replaces Takashi Sorimachi as the title character in the remake of the 1998 drama. Both live-action versions are based on Tohru Fujisawa's original school comedy manga about a former gang member who becomes an unorthodox teacher.
20-year-old actress Miori Takimoto (Higanjima) will play the heroine Azusa Fuyutsuki, and 51-year-old Hitomi Kuroki (20th Century Boys, Dark Water) will play Sakurai Ryoko, the principal who believes in Onizuka's teaching abilities. 26-year-old Yuu Shirota (The Prince of Tennis) will play Ryuji Danma, a friend from Onizuka's biker gang days who now lives with him. Students in Onizuka's "Class 2-4" will be played by Haruna Kawaguchi, Shō Takada, Shintarō Morimoto, and Taishi Nakagawa. 24-year-old Yūsuke Yamamoto and 60-year-old Ryōsei Tayama round out the cast; Yamamoto will play the part of Toshiyuki Saejima, policeman and bad influence on Onizuka, while Tayama will play Hiroshi Uchiyamada, the loud-mouthed vice-principal and Onizuka's nemesis. The series will premiere in July on the Fuji TV network and will run on Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m.
The Nikkan Sports newspaper had reported earlier this month that the 30-year-old Akira would replace 27-year-old actor/singer Jin Akanishi. Nikkan Sports had noted in April that Akanishi was forced by Johnny & Associates, his talent agency, to leave the remake. Akanishi married the actress/singer Meisa Kuroki (23) on February 2, and he reportedly did not notify Johnny & Associates until after registering his marriage. Kuroki confirmed last month that she is pregnant.
Tokyopop published the original manga in North America. In 2009, Fujisawa returned to the character of Onizuka with the manga Shonan 14 Days. Vertical announced in May that it licensed both GTO: Shonan 14 Days and Shonan Junai-gumi (the predecessor to Great Teacher Onizuka) for North America. Fujisawa just finished Shonan 14 Days last year, but he launched a three-chapter spinoff in November.
Japan's Defence Forces Recruits High Schoolers with Gundam's Zaku
Image promoting JGSDF school conspicuously features mobile suit
A recent image posted on the top page of the official website for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) High Technical School conspicuously features the Zaku mobile suit from the Gundam series, with two students looking at a toy of the suit while imagining themselves as one.
The JGSDF High Technical School is a three-year high school that offers specialized technical training as well as officer training to its students, who are assigned as leading privates in the JGSDF upon graduation. A robotics club is recognized by the school as an official school club, while technical training courses at the school also feature robots, using Lego's NXT robotics system and Japan Robotech's RoboDesigner system for educational purposes.

"My Brothers a NEET and I want him dead!"
So this one moved me a little bit, and as always, being Happeh, I'd thought I'd write about this story and hopefully warn you guys. I've warned you before about NEET's but this one is a little less gruesome and a little less 'touching,' although harsh. A little girl has wrote about her elder brother and told of how she'd rather have him "dead" than being an Anime Otaku and NEET. She's even had to drop out of high school because his medicine and phone bills. He asks for anime BD's often and their mother pays for it all. This also solidifies the point of "Hikimori's, NEETS and Otaku's" being highly disliked in the community of Japan and quite a few agree with this girl. Here is the original story written by the girl:
Little Sister Wrote:I have an elder brother who turns 19 in September.
He was bullied a bit in high school, and took 2 years off. Then he was diagnosed with a social phobia at hospital.
After that he had to change school, and after a day stopped going, and has been off school ever since. I don’t know how to deal with him.
I don’t care if he doesn’t work full time, but I’d like him to work at least a few hours.
He gets and allowance from our mother every month, I honestly wish he’d stop! (I don’t get one)
Our mother can’t really buy the things she wants, and she pays the phone bills too, quite a bit with all our calls.
He also wanted our mother to buy him anime BDs, and I told him to make do with novels as they are really expensive, but she’s sure to get him them all the same.
He takes $350 worth of medicine every month, and on top of that he makes her pay for his mobile and give him an allowance. Isn’t there something wrong with this picture?
Our household is a single parent family, and there is also my older sister living with us, who is working. I only just graduated middle school, but thanks to my brother I wasn’t able to go to high school, I’m having to work part time and study with a friend in the hopes of attending university.
It’s hard being at home.
I’m really glad when he does occasionally go out, but mainly I just wish he would not come back.
I wish I could leave, or else that my brother would die. What should I do? I’m going to go crazy if I stay put.
This also links back to a study by Japanese Police, who studies how many young people were killing themselves in 2007 because they had work difficulties. Since then, the statistic has risen by 250% to 159 in 2011. People would rather "die" than become NEET's. So morale of the story guys; watch anime, but be outgoing! Specially if you wish to live in Japan!

Synopsis
The series follows Koko Hekmatyar, a young arms dealer who sells weapons under HCLI, a weapons corporation.
As one of the company's unofficial weapon sellers, she secretly sells weapons in many countries while avoiding the local authorities and law enforcements as most of her work is actually illegal under international law. Traveling with her is her team of bodyguards who are mostly composed of ex-military veterans.
Her latest addition to her crew is Jonah, a seemingly emotionless child soldier who is skilled in combat yet ironically hates arms dealers. Jonah joins Koko as he wishes to find the arms dealer responsible for his family's death.
What follows is Koko and her crews escapades around the world.

Woah, I now understand why they disgust about otaku's there, its surely turning something serious.
Nice compilation. Looking forward to GTO remake.
""Hikimori's, NEETS and Otaku's" being highly disliked in the community of Japan and quite a few agree with this girl"
Agree with them on this, what on earth would make anyone think that being a Hikimori, NEET or an Otaku is a good thing, sure i like anime, but damn I work 6 days a week full time and attend partys every once in a while.. I don't understand how people can just sit and watch anime all day, bores me :P

For anyone that might care: Figurine Corner is back next week. :3
Also, glad you liked my report on the whole "NEET" thing. Shameful that her brother is getting all that, and she can't afford to go to High School. I know he may have a phobia, but seriously, think of others.

Hm. This is probably the first AA weekly that relates me to me the most... It's pretty sad to be honestly.
But before that, I didnt know Taniuchi lived in Yokohama O.o Ironical, thats where I lived rofl. I wonder how close I was to him.. hm... anyway. Thats pretty messed up he got arrested for that... But I hope he doesnt get too much time for that little amount of weed. On the other hand, he could of just gotten some Spice XD Since its legal in Japan.
About the NEET sotry.. I'm, not trying to make this all about me or anything, but I want to just say how bad it really is sometimes... So i'll post my experiences as an example of how stressful it can get sometimes..
If you care you can click the spoiler. If not, thats fine. :3 Who wants me read my silly who me life story? XD
So.. the little girl story... it really hit me hard when I read that...
When I lived in Japan a few years ago, I pretty much had the hardest time money wise ive ever had in those 3 years I lived there. (But dont get me wrong the amazingness of Japan outweighs the hard time 100x over. SO GO TO JAPAN! :D)
My Mom was always mad and never worked, I was attending school and had a part time job at a recreation center.. I had to come home and deal with her every day. She didnt do anything. She was going to college and quit because of the money issue..
She didnt want to get a job. My step dad (which was the reason I was in Japan in the first place) was off on a boat somewhere spending all the money he got from it on himself.. I was pretty much alone earning little from the my job to support my family .-. The rent was free, but the costs of expenses really hit hard.
The phone bill? LOL. Horrible. Honestly, when I was there even with the cheapest plan I could find it was still almost 100 yen per minute (Which is a bit more than a dollar, and yes. Minute.) With my mom on the phone every night talk to my him, it really cost alot .-.
One day, after working late one night, I fell asleep on the couch and when morning came I was about to get up for school, which I walked to, my Mom came yelling down how I was going to be late and said I was grounded from everything for laying on the couch and not getting ready. (ikr? XD) Fearing my laptop getting taken away from me, I ran upstairs to see her go into my room, get my xbox and laptop, which they paid for earlier in the year, and walked away to her room. I tried to tell her I wasnt going to be late and my she flipped out. She told me to not talk back to her, and how I'm the reason we(she meant herself) cannot afford to buy nice things. When I tried to defend myself, she threw my laptop across her room and it hit the wall, cracking the screen completely. She then took my xbox and smashed it repeatedly on the ground, causing all the plastic to come off leaving meetal box.
after that, she just yelled at me to go to school, and I was off. When I come back, she said a simple sorry for getting mad, and went to sleep. Then stuff happened and we moved, leaving Japan and it's wonders until the next time I go back.
Now, back in America, everything is great and she is a totally different person, for the better. :)
ANYWHO. I just wanted to share my story about it because I thought it was just like that sad little girl story D: Makes me sad she has to go thru that. >.< So sad this week, but great :3
btw: Sorry for writing so much .-.

Loved the story, sometimes it's good to hear about the hard times of Japan, because you don't want to get this idea of it being 'perfect.' Specially when you're like me and want to move there. ^_^
