“Akane Kisarazu” JGSDF AH-1S Ita-Cobra Formidably Cute

Fans of cute girls and military hardware alike have been delighted by the recent display of base mascot Akane Kisarazu and her ita-Cobra attack helicopter as part of Camp Kisarazu’s 40th air festival.

The character appearing on the aircraft – and cosplayed by the pretty girl sitting atop it – is Akane Kisarazu, the mascot of JGSDF Camp Kisarazu, a JGSDF base in Chiba prefecture which houses the 1st Helicopter Brigade and hosts its own matsuri, in this case hosted by 4ATH, the 4th anti-tank helicopter squadron.

The vital statistics of Akane Kisarazu:
  • Name: Akane Kisarazu (木更津茜)

  • Age: 23

  • Rank: 1st Lieutenant

  • Skill: Combat pilot

  • Height: 161cm

  • BWH: STATE SECRET

  • Hobbies: Cooking & outdoor activities

The helicopter she appears on is a AH-1S Cobra (the unit having not yet received their AH-64D Apaches), a modernised variant of the USA’s venerable AH-1 Cobra produced under license in Japan until 2000.
Whether the cosplayer in question is actually a serving member of the air force is unfortunately not clear – though judging by the number of Japanese vowing to enlist after seeing her, her power as a recruitment aid is as great either way.
The base festival of course had plenty of serious military posturing on display as well.

Hatsune Miku-Colored Blue Yakisoba Noodles Sold in Japan

The cosplay café "Koakuma no En Little BSD" (Little Devil's Feast Little BSD) revealed a new item this weekend: blue-colored Hatsune Miku yakisoba (fried noodles) with long onions. The café began selling a limited number of the noodle meals at the Moe1 Grand Prix exhibition on Saturday at the Bellesalle Akihabara hall. The noodles sold for 700 yen (about US$9) each, and only 30 meals were available for purchase on the first day.

The noodles were only sold on Saturday and Sunday, and were used as a promotional item for the cosplay café. (Each set came with a 50%-off coupon.) The noodle meal will not be sold at the café itself.

There has not been much approval of the dish amongst its target audience, due to being dyed a suitably unappetising shade of green and blue.

Hear Japan's New Phone Agent Talk in Voice of K-ON's Ritsu

In a video from NTT Docomo's Winter 2012 model line unveiling on Thursday, we can hear the enhanced Shabette Concier ("Talking Concierge") voice agent service in action with the voice of the K-ON! anime's high school girl Ritsu. Similar to Apple's Siri, Shabette Concier lets users ask questions and give commands in their natural speaking voice, and the phone (via Docomo's cloud services) will interpret the request and talk back.

In the video, the woman asks Ritsu to call Satō, tells Ritsu to find a taxi, says "Aloha," and notes that she working overtime. In the taxi example, Ritsu could not understand the woman's first attempt, and in the "Aloha" example, Ritsu chastises the woman to speak louder and clearer — before saying she does not recognize what the woman is saying.

Starting this November, users can choose a character for Shabette Concier. Not only will Shabette Concier take on the appearance of the character, but also his or her voice and dialogue lines. The characters include Chibi Maruko-chan, Snoopy & His Friends, the children's program Hirake! Ponkikki's popular Gachapin dinosaur mascot and his snowboy pal Mook, Hello Kitty, comedian Naomi Watanabe, K-ON!!, TV Asahi and Sanrio's Gō EX Panda mascot, the Eagle Talon Flash comedy anime's Yoshida-kun, Squid Girl, D.C.III, Hamtaro, Prince Mackaroo, Wish Me Mell, My Melody, and Cinnamoroll.

2ch Forum's Saimoe Tournament 2012 Round 3: Groups A-H

The Anime Saimoe Tournament is an annual poll in which users from Japan's 2channel message board vote on the most moe female anime character of the past year.

Almost any female character in a television anime, anime film, original video anime (OVA), or web anime released in Japan between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012 is eligible for the tournament. The main exceptions are characters from 18+ anime, who are not eligible.

Foreigners are technically capable of participating in the tournament; English-language instructions on how to vote have been provided by the Anime Saimoe fan site.

The results for groups A through H went as follows, with vote counts: (Click to View)

At the end of the third round of Saimoe, only 16 girls remain. Over half still in represent mahjong anime Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A. While seven shows — Haganai, Ro-Kyu-Bu!, Shakugan no Shana III (Final), Smile Pretty Cure!, Strike Witches, Yuruyuri and Familiar of Zero F — all have one entry left in the tournament. Missing from top 16 are members from the show The IDOLM@STER, where eight singers advanced to the second round but all were quickly eliminated over the next two rounds.

The top 10 vote-getters from the third round are as follows:

Akari Akaza - Yuruyuri - 385
Ako Atarashi - Saki Episode of Side A - 383
Toki Onjouji - Saki Episode of Side A - 361
Kuro Matsumi - Saki Episode of Side A - 361
Yuu Matsumi - Saki Episode of Side A - 350
Hisa Takei - Saki Episode of Side A - 334
Saki Miyanaga - Saki Episode of Side A - 321
Louise de la Valliere - Familiar of Zero F - 306
Nodoka Haramura - Saki Episode of Side A - 305
Kirame Hanada - Saki Episode of Side A - 299
Given the way the brackets played out this tournament, at least three Saki characters will advance to Top 8 via Groups A (Saki vs. Koromo), F (Kirame vs. Kuro) and G (Nodoka vs. Ako) matchups. Conversely, at least two spots in Top 8 will not be taken up by Saki entries via Groups D (Hinata vs. Louise) and H (Shana vs. Sena).

Seven of the remaining entries are considered veterans to the tournament. Most notable are Louise de la Valliere (Quarter-finalist/Top 8, 2009), Shana (Quarter-finalist/Top 8, 2010), Koromo Amae (Semi-finalist/Top 4, 2010) and Nodoka Haramura (Semi-finalist/Top 4, 2010). Ironically, the three returning Saimoe champions — Azusa Nakano (K-ON!, 2010); Taiga Aisaka (Toradora!, 2009); and Rika Furude (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, 2007) — were all eliminated in the second round of the tournament

Only voice actresses Yui Ogura (Toki Onjouji, Hinata Hakamada) and Rie Kugimiya (Louise De La Valliere, Shana) still have two characters left in the tournament, while the rest of the field only have one girl left.

Staff:
  • Tasemu (No submission)

  • Rakshasa

I will be substituting for Tasemu on his AA Weekly project until he either picks it up again or people just generally stop caring. I apologize for any problems this may or may not cause.

Currently looking for additional staff members to help out for a limited amount of time until Tasemu comes back.
PM me to apply, must be ready to scout for articles and write every week.
Bad ass, thanks for posting this week. I may be interested in writing for this in the future.

Oh fuck, been a long time since I seen one of these. Nice job lmfao.
This was great, I didn't even know this was a thing. Just shows how new I am to AA :P
Holy fuck are you taking user entries? I have so much anime to review :O

Thanks for the support guys, next one will most likely be out around monday ^^

@Vector
This is strictly a news thread, but you should just post your reviews in AA and I can link to them in the news section. Was thinking of doing that anyway if we get any reviews to link ;3
I'm still searching for additional staff members though to help scout for articles etc.. PM me.
Wait, I got fired from AA Weekly? Since when? D:

I have passed it on due to personal issues. New management means all staff need to reapply, common sense would dictate you would come to that conclusion over being fired eh Orihime?

I know. Besides, I don't really consider me staff after not writing for months, let alone not coming online to AA for months.

Great thread, I missed reading these things. That amv could have been a promotional trailer because it made Nisemonogatari seem so action packed and erotic (which really wouldn't be a lie). Great work on the youtubers part and yours for posting it of course.
The Ritsu (Siri) thing is cute too and I wants. As far as Shinichiro Watanabe's new work and studio, I can't wait to see what comes of it. I'm friends with one of Watanabe's animators so maybe, just maybe, I can get a few more details about the new project and inform you guys about it (I highly doubt it though lol).

Worth a try I guess? Would like to know more about that project myself :3
Good to see AA News back. Nice to see the torch passed on.
