Welcome to my 1st guide as a part of Legion, This guide will be dedicated to the use of the program Truecrypt. I will only be going over 1 part of Truecrypt today and that is creating an encrypted disk that only Truecrypt can mount
Truecrypt creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk. [source]
Now onto how to set Truecrypt up
Step 1
You will want to download Truecrypt from here http://www.truecrypt.org/downloads and install it
Step 2
After you have installed it open it up and you should see this screen Spoiler (Click to View)
Now click on create volume.
Step 3
After you have clicked on create volume another screen should pop up and for the tutorial I will only be explaining the "Create an encrypted file container" since that is the default selection you can just press next
Step 4
Now this is where Truecrypt comes into it's own. It gives you 2 options
1. A Standard Truecrypt volume
2. A Hidden Truecrypt volume
Now a standard Truecrypt volume is just an encrypted storage disk, Imagine a hard-drive that is encrypted with a password but all of it's files are encrypted. There is one password which will unlock the drive
A Hidden Truecrypt volume is a volume inside a volume, It has 2 different passwords which open different layers off the volume. It also offers a plausible deniability factor. Say for example if the police are forcing you into revealing your password you can give them the outer layer password but still keep the password to the inner layer all to yourself. The best part is this. They can't prove the inner layer exists! More information
Step 5
If you choose a standard truecrypt installation skip this step
If you have chosen the hidden option you will come up to a screen that looks like this
Spoiler (Click to View)
If this is your 1st volume just hit next. If you want to add a hidden section to an existing standard volume chose the option Direct Mode and then just keep following the steps
Step 6
Chose where you want to save it, If it is going to be a small volume then you can hide it if you wish, however if you are going to make it large then simply put it on your desktop (A simple file size search would find it instantly)
Step 7
In this step you choose your encryption method which is probably the most important part (Although all methods are secure) I personally recommend these settings
Spoiler (Click to View)
Step 8
In this section you choose how much space you want in your OUTER volume, so if you wanted 15 gigs in your hidden volume I would recommend settings your outer volume at 20 gigabytes (If you chose a standard volume just choose how much space you want)
Step 9
Pretty self explanatory, refer to the tips at the end of the thread for ideas on passwords.
Step 10
[source]
Step 11
And now your done!
If you chose a hidden volume you start again on step 7 and just keep the same settings and choose the size of your hidden volume

Step 10
Code
The random number generator (RNG) is used to generate the master encryption key, the secondary key (XTS mode), salt, and keyfiles. It creates a pool of random values in RAM (memory). The pool, which is 320 bytes long, is filled with data from the following sources:
Mouse movements
Keystrokes
Mac OS X and Linux: Values generated by the built-in RNG (both /dev/random and /dev/urandom)
MS Windows: Windows CryptoAPI (collected regularly at 500-ms interval)
MS Windows: Network interface statistics (NETAPI32)
MS Windows: Various Win32 handles, time variables, and counters (collected regularly at 500-ms interval)
Before a value obtained from any of the above-mentioned sources is written to the pool, it is divided into individual bytes (e.g., a 32-bit number is divided into four bytes). These bytes are then individually written to the pool with the modulo 28 addition operation (not by replacing the old values in the pool) at the position of the pool cursor. After a byte is written, the pool cursor position is advanced by one byte. When the cursor reaches the end of the pool, its position is set to the beginning of the pool. After every 16th byte written to the pool, the pool mixing function is applied to the entire pool (see below).Step 11
And now your done!
If you chose a hidden volume you start again on step 7 and just keep the same settings and choose the size of your hidden volume
