[Tips] On keeping viruses off your computer

This is for noobs only! PLease do not troll.

To keep most viruses off your computer
First download a free Anti virus, i will be using Avast
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Once Installed you have your basic protection from viruses.

Second make your firewall is on.

Third every time i download a file i always scan at Novirusthanks.org before i open to make sure it doesnt have a backdoor or some other virus.

Also if you are running Windows xp, vista, or windows7 you can always check you msconfig for virus start ups.

Enjoy!

Hi, C10Wn.

A little more detail would have been nice. Perhaps you can include information about other forms of protection such as anti-malware and network security?

Thanks,
Malware Boss
Yea i plan on updating the tut soon.
As I have often stated, guides for novices should be the most comprehensive ones.
i would be wary of telling a novice to do a msconfig. i once was trying to walk someone thru doing a selective startup over the phone.
i told the person to uncheck only the first 2 boxes and the last box.
well they unchecked all 4...we know what happened after that.
Hi, C10Wn.

Paradoxum is right, please go into more detail in this. I suggest you include the fact that users should only have one anti-virus installed.

Thanks,
S7N
You could also include to download only from reliable websites, such as download.net. Also, dont be clicking and replying to random emails 😉

Also, if an offer is too good to be true online then it is. Getting a free computer with a credit check online doesnt exactly sound that safe 😝

Here are some other tips I thought of:

-Be smart. If you are going to be risky and download full programs make sure to read comments, make sure it has a good S/L ratio, etc.
-Update your browser, java, IE, and OS SP's usually when they come out for offical release. These often have security fixes that will help you be safe.
-If in doubt, dont be scared to ask 😉

I didnt wanna intrude too much on your thread, but good idea.
I'm sure the OP will take all of these into consideration. 🙂
