A very big complaint when Windows 8 was released was the Metro UI that the user is greeted with upon booting up. Millions of users found it uncomfortable to use and felt it was not the right move to do replacing the conventional start button. In Windows 8.1, you have the ability to boot directly into the desktop screen on booting up after heavy requests from the users. Here is how you can tweak with the settings to do it.
- Boot Windows 8.1 and navigate to the desktop.
- Right-click at any empty spot in the task bar and select Properties.
- Click the Navigation tab.
- Check the option that says 'Go to the desktop instead of Start when I sign in'.
- Click OK and reboot.
