Hey guys, this is the first in a small series of screencasts I will be doing in the near future. It doesn't go into much detail but shows you some of the fundamentals of what Ruby on Rails can do for you.
No love for rails, come back to me when you guys get out of the stone age. -.-
Hey man, nice video. I only got through the first 10 minutes because I'm really tired, but I'm going to finish it later.
It seemed you were a little sick at the time of the video recording... which might repel some viewers... especially when you like spat that one time (you could try recording your voice in segments for each slide and just re-do segments where you mess up). I apologize that this might be a little embarrassing, but this will probably help you attract a larger audience for future videos.
I don't think videos are really that popular in general on hackforums, so I also might suggest having a small typed tutorial to accompany it.
Otherwise, it was a very interesting video. I had a friend recommend that I start learning Ruby on Rails instead of using Apache for a server I set up on my computer to use for personal experimentation and learning purposes (not totally sure if RoR is something that can replace Apache from that tutorial). Anyways, the video really sold me on RoR as something I should at least check out and play with a bit. From what I understood in the section I watched, it can replace at least PHP and MySQL in this LAMP that I set up which sounds really cool.
Please correct me if I have misinterpreted anything about RoR, I started programming with java a few years ago in high school and have only a few months ago taken an interest to website/web server stuff.
Really nice beginner tut Tasemu. Im amazed hardly anyone one replied to this thread as this was great to watch. I might try and make a minimalist anime blog site as it's something fun to do

Well Notepad++ is free for one. Also I just find sublime more annoying than helpfull, I like to keep it simple.
OT: Gonna watch the vid once I get home, see what this is about.
I only read this now and noticed your edit regarding "No love for RoR" - I must disagree. There is love for RoR but the majority of folk here on HF who do like RoR have already learned it (like myself and Poppins, for example) and we've also moved on to trying new things in Python and Node.js and there's also another guy, forget his name, who moved on to D. RoR is fun, convenient... but it has one major pitfall: it's getting old and people like change.
RoR is not that old at all. Far younger than Python. Its not as new as Node but has a far bigger following and community. Not to mention the job market for rails developers compared to the others.
If the only reason you switched was because you thought it is getting old id rethink it.

Hahaha, not what I meant at all. When I said it's getting old, what I meant was that those of us who do use it often are just bored of always using it and are just looking for new technologies to make working with these technologies more fun. :)
