Because it can be traced back to my real phone number. You must enter a real number then when you make a call on google voice, it calls your phone then connect to the other person.

Go make a textfree account, put the zip code(for the location you want your phone number to be from) in the box, and pick a phone number. Use this when you register on google voice and it won't be able to go back to your phone number. Also, when you finish that click on the number in gvoice and deselect it. make sure to have gmail open when you call someone or it will not be able to connect to the call.

Thank you Zark Mucherberg, but when you do that it calls the Textfree number, That number has to be able to pick up the call for it to connect to the other person. If its just a textfree number how can it be answered, so i calls the other person...
