You're able to install the Android SDK and create an emulator running a rooted rom(Cyanogenmod ;)), and then do the guide on the emulator.
Requirements:
- An rooted Android device running the newest version of Clockworkmod.
- Uninstall any current installed Dropbox files. If you've ever installed Dropbox before at your device, make sure to clear the leftovers from Dropbox.
- Remember there's a lot of rooting guides out there at the internet, so please don't ask me. The newer your device is, the easier it should be to do the rooting process.
How to:
- Download the 2 files located in the download section at the bottom of the thread.
- Move them to your Android device if you downloaded them at your computer.
- Install the Dropbox APK file, but DON'T RUN IT yet. If you do, uninstall Dropbox and clear out the leftover files.
- Reboot into Clockworkmod and flash the Dropbox_CMW.zip file, without clearing or flushing any cahce or data.
- Reboot your device into the normal Android state.
- Run the Dropbox application and login to your Dropbox account, or create a new one.
- You'll now receive an email by Dropbox that they've upgraded your account with 50GB of free storage. Compared to your membership you may or may not have to accept a link Dropbox sent you.
- Enjoy! Hope you liked the guide. :)
F.A.Q:
- Will I get banned by doing this?
Not at the currently, but I can't ensure that Dropbox will have their employees look out for these kind of things.
This is 90% risk free at the moment. :)
- How is this working/possible?
Dropbox are offering free 50GB storage for the Samsung S3 and S4 owners. All we're doing is make Dropbox think we're having a Samsung device, so when we login to Dropbox it'll upgrade our account.
- How long will this work?
This will possible be patched by the end of the year. No one really knows, but I think it'll stay throughout the next 3+ months.
