I have to log in with my specific username and password to access the college internet.
Does a VPN still protect me from being monitored, I.E, torrenting? Or can they still see logs of everything I do including torenting since I logged into the system.
Thanks.
I THINK this is how it works. I'm probably wrong:
Depending on the VPN, it is encrypted until it gets to you, soo...
Decrypted You >Encrypted> College > Encrypted > VPN > Decrypted > google.com
So your VPN encrypts it with a key, and your computer has the key to decrypt?
Someone confirm that I'm wrong, please :D
Well, I suppose it doesn't protect you that way. VPN protects your ip from outside, your internet provider still knows what you are doing. The same way it would be with college internet. Your provider, in that case university, will know that you logged in, that you connected through the VPN and that you begun to download torrents. However the torrent site will not know that you connected from university because you used VPN.

Incorrect, because the information from CollegeRouter346 is encrypted from you to it.
That's why you can watch porn and access blocked sites using proxies or whatever.
Like PirateBay, right?
according to what you say it actually work like this:
To connect to the internet, you will have to use their proxy with your student name and password, so:
Your pc ---> campus proxy username/password ----> internet.
with a vpn, it works like this:
Your pc ---> campus proxy username/password ---> vpn---->internet
By using a vpn, your campus can only see that you are connecting to the vpn ip address that's it because from vpn---->internet, the connection is encrypted.

I literally said that twice already.
