Today, I will show you how to make eye-pleasing, glossy text. If you are too lazy, I will include a .PSD file for download. This tutorial is split into 3 parts. The setup, Layer styles, and Gradient overlay.

Part 1:
Spoiler (Click to View)
1. In Photoshop click File > New, CTRL + N, Or Command + N.
2. Set dimensions to 650x200px

3. Change to the type tool (Shift + T)
4. Type in your text with a font of your choice. (I'm using DOCK11)



Part 2:
Spoiler (Click to View)
5. Double click the right side of the layer to show layer styles

6. Check "Stroke" and use the settings below: (Color: #11)

7. Check "Bevel and Emboss" and use the settings below:

8. Check "Inner Shadow" and use the settings below:

9. Check "Outer Glow" and use the settings below:

10. Check "Gradient Overlay" and use the settings below:



Part 3:
Spoiler (Click to View)
11. Double click on the black/white gradient to show the Gradient Editor
12. Create a tab by clicking anywhere on the bar, and set the position to 49%.
13. Create another tab, and set the position to 52%.
14. You should now have 4 tabs. 0%, 49%, 52%, and 100%
15. Set the colors for the tabs. The bottom 2 should be dark, around the same color. While the upper 2 should be light, around the same color.

Example: I used green.


16. Close the layer styles, and you should have this as your final result:



17. Use File > Save for web, then export it as a PNG.
