Legion | How to become a skilled Hacker. (A Beginner's guide to becoming a Hacker)

Hello HackForums. Now let's be honest. This forum is filled with skids, wanna-be's, and liars. I would like to change that.

In this thread I will explain how to become a hacker. As in how to begin, how to learn, how to become a legitimate hacker, rather than a skid.

How to begin

Now look. Before you continue on with this thread, ask yourselves these questions. Are you dedicated? Do you have motivation? Do you really want to spend hours of time learning to hack?

If you answered no to any of these, leave this page. Don't even bother reading. You will only waste hours of your life.

If you answered yes, let's begin.

I'm going to give a quick explanation of what hacking actually is. Hacking is the art of seeking and utilizing vulnerabilities in systems, servers, or firewalls.

Yes, that means spreading a virus is NOT hacking. Neither is keylogging, RATting, or booting people offline.

Important terms in hacking

Now there are so many important terms in hacking it's ridiculous.

I'm not going to paste any in, but rather give you links to sites with true information.

Link 1: http://evestigate.com/cyber-crime-hacker-terms-to-know/
Link 2: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/L...8/term.htm

Those will help you along the way. Knowing proper terms is vital for hacking.

What to hack

Now there are so many different things to hack/learn to hack. Some people would like to learn to hack websites. Some prefer to hack servers. Some prefer to hijack/hack home/work computers.

Now you don't have to choose one, though I'd recommend starting with one, and then when you get fairly good with it, move on.

Now there are many resources for different things.

If you are into website pen-testing (Website Penetration Testing, or website hacking) I'd recommend dual-booting a Linux Distribution such as Kali. Operating systems like Kali come with loads of helpful tools for hacking.

TIP: Something which you want to avoid is only learning how to use tools. Try learning how they work as well.

If you would like to learn how to hack servers, look into E-books on it. That is one thing which I myself haven't looked into much, though I know there are so many resources for it it's ridiculous, even around the forum.

Now if you are into hacking home/work computers, learn to understand how RDP works, and how firewalls and similar security programs work. This will help you in the near future. Again, look around the forum on how to hack this.

TIP: I know I left out several things people are interested in hacking, example WiFi networks. The ones I included are the three ones beginners are usually interested in, and beginners will usually discover other hacking targets and methods as they learn about the basic ones.

What to learn

Now knowing what to learn is key to hacking. Now I can simplify it easily.

What should you learn? Basics of programming languages, terms, how to use programs that are often utilized for hacking targets similar to yours, and security.

Now a little more explanation.

What languages you should learn depends on what you are wanting to hack. If you are looking to hack websites, languages often used on websites would be helpful. For example: PHP, Javascript, MySQL, and HTML. Learning the basics of all those will be incredibly helpful.

Now say you wanted to learn how to hack general computers. I would recommend API languages, especially ones commonly used on Windows. Some good examples would be C++, VB, or Java. Some knowledge of commands used in CMD would be somewhat vital as well.

Now learning how to use programs that are often used for targeting your target. It really depends what your target is. Say you were targeting a website. I would want to learn how to use NMap, Metasploit, PuTTy, OWASP ZAP, and just how to overall use Linux Distributions as these are all regularly used when pentesting websites.

It goes the same way with hacking anything else. Do research into tools that are used for hacking your target, and learn them.

TIP: Don't take short cuts when learning. Believe me. I have. It will only confuse you later on.

Now for staying secure. There's so much to this I am just going to paste a thread I have made in the past.

What you shouldn't waste your time on

RATting, Keylogging, and spreading. Now don't get me wrong. RATting, Keylogging, and spreading can be very helpful when gathering information such as passwords and account info or making cash. What I mean by this is don't waste too much time doing them if you are actually wanting to hack. These aren't hacking forms, so I wouldn't spend much learning about them. Though it is nice to know how they work of course, though that will come fairly naturally if you ever learn a programming language like C#.

And this is the perfect example of what I was talking about in the first few sentences.

(I JK, though don't try and be funny by trying to mock my thread)
Very nice thread Ceoff, keep up the good work, your new team leader will appreciate it very much.
Nice thread, it can help people who don't have much experience within hacking.

I wasn't mocking your thread o.o
I just thought the joke was pretty funny. Who says you have to be serious all the time.
If you want a serious response I would see the tut gives someone who wants the start hacking a good idea of where they should and shouldn't start.
Lmao nice thread Ceoff, it's actually really helpful.

It's HQ and you spent time on it, that's what matters. It's great.

this sucks.

please explain what an 'API language' is.

10/10 OP, my jimmies are rustled. If this was a troll you're successful.
Hi, It may appear to some that I am attempting to trash your thread but in no way shape or form am I.

http://prntscr.com/2x2rc2 Can you PM me or reply to my post the hacking advantages of learning how to use putty?

It's definitely HQ, no questions asked.
But soon it will be buried by LQ, useless threads.
Which will be sad, in my opinion.
If the moderators could make it a stickie, it would certainly be helpful.
With "learn PuTTY", don't you actually mean learn more about Linux, as you'll most likely control Linux servers via SSH using PuTTY?
There is nothing you have to learn with PuTTY - enter the server IP, done. Everything else is Linux.

I'd be surprised if this guy knew what *nix was.

Oh, I said PuTTy simply because it can be useful when gaining and utilizing root access. It's not required, though I just feel that it is very helpful.
This is a very nice and detailed guide. Really easy to read, also really easy to understand as a beginner.
