Eros' Video Editing Help Desk

Play this while reading <3 Will make you 10x Happier 🤗

Description:
Hey guys, I have recently been "monitoring" the video editing portion of the graphics sub forum and have come to the conclusion that there are many, many, many questions being thrown around that have yet to be answered. Even the ones that are being answered are not being answered to the fullest extent. I want to ensure that when you come here you can receive the knowledge that you want to know about video editing and hopefully leave here more knowledgeable and proud of your editing. This is the reason I am setting up a help desk where users can post their edits & get feedback, ask general questions, and even request edits & tutorials. All of which I will answer to the best of my knowledge/performance, I want to ensure that no one feels they should quit editing because they can't get the right effect or flow that they want on their videos, that should NOT be the case considering editing is for fun and should be treated as such.

Editing Background:
I have been doing video editing since 2009 and have had a passion for it ever since. I originated from Sony Vegas and used it for 2 years before moving to Adobe After Effects and using that program for 3 years. My total video editing experience is 5 years and I have had many different editing scenarios to better improve my knowledge. Whether if be IRL editing to COD montages or Advertising, I have done the majority of it. I am here to help you guys improve whatever interests you the most and to hopefully continue your video editing careers.

Do:

  • Ask any questions related to Video Editing

  • Ask for tutorials on how to do effects/transitions/syncing/flow

  • Post EDITS ONLY, asking for feedback

  • Feel free to help others if you are 100% sure

Don't:

  • Provide information you are not 100% sure of

  • Bash on edits, only CONSTRUCTIVE criticism

  • Post trolling/LQ comments

  • Start arguments or fights, this is not the place, do it elsewhere

Areas of Critique:

  • Visual Effects

  • Intros/Outros

  • Transitions

  • Overall Flow/Feel

  • Color Correction

  • Syncing

  • Sounds & Audio

  • Song Choices

  • Footage Placement

  • Overall Rate

Conclusion:

All in all, I made this help desk to improve your editing as well as make sure you are having fun while doing it. I myself have had little phases where I just got sick of editing because I couldn't do something, or I couldn't find the motivation to complete the edit. Hopefully you are listening to the song I linked at the top because that song was the first song I ever edited too, and it has been very memorable ever since and has always gave me motivation to edit, and that is something everyone should experience. HAVE FUN guys, don't let people who bash on you stop you from doing something you love, here you should NOT get bashed on and I want everyone to have a positive attitude while posting here as well as receiving feedback. You also need to understand that if someone's advice comes up as "rude" or "insulting" or "mean" they are just trying to help you and make you a better editor, so don't get mad at them and just try to take what they are saying into consideration before starting a cyber war. I really hope this help desk gets used and is useful to a lot of editors, new or old, everyone who is interested in video editing is welcome here. 🤝

Sony Vegas is weird with this stuff. What you are able to do is on your progression bar (the time frame image showing your clip with the little "|" bar that you can go forward and back with), if you go to the start of the clip and hover your mouse over that bar, you should come up with something called "Fade In Offset" as well as "Fade Out Offset". It is from here you are able to fade in and fade out your clips.

When it does come up with the little arrow, just move your mouse along the top of the video frames to the point where you want it to fade. It should be angled inward showing the fade in effect is actually occurring.
If you don't understand what I mean, here is a really quick and easy video to show you exactly what it is you need to know to do the fade in/out technique:
