If one were to have a sales thread for a product in an SMF, would they be prohibited from making a sales thread in the appropriate section for selling it were it not in an SMF?

You can have a thread in an SMF even if you already have the same thread in the appropriate section, it's not cross-posting.
In your scenario, it just goes the other way. I don't see why you couldn't.

You're allowed to post your sales thread in a Private Sub Forum, example: "Null Products, JD's Private SMF"

alongside the appropriate section amongst the forums.

Let's say if you owned a ebook, you can post it in the "Ebook Bazzar" along side "Null Products" (If you were accepted to post there)

SMF's do not count toward the cross posting rule. The other rule which doesn't apply is the stressers are only allowed in the SST.
