Freddie Gibbs is an Indiana rapper who has put out a few mixtapes in the past, a more popular one being Cold Day In Hell. Piñata is second album, a collaboration with producer Madlib, AKA Quasimoto, who is well known for working with rapper MF DOOM.

This album has plenty of nice features, like
Ab-Soul, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller, Casey Veggies, Domo Genesis, and plenty of others.

Deeper - Freddie Gibbs is is rapping a story about how the girlfriend he loved, gave money to, and did anything for cheated on him with another "square" guy, and finds out years later the baby is his. Catchy, sad sounding beat.
Piñata - Sampled off a 70's old Funk/Soul song, the strings give it an older, unique feel. Great verses spit all the way around. Casey Veggies' verse gets you hyped, Domo Genesis has some clever verses:
"My grind divides fine through my divine eyes
It's prime time, you wish you could buy time, but it's my time
Thoughts against I, blasphemy, it's like a vice crime"
Mac Miller ends the track with a nice metaphor:
"Absorb it through your pores, the Lord with horns, a war
Whores are more hors d'oeuvre when it's a world tour"
I can't really complain about many of the songs, they were pretty good all around.
Least Favorite
Harold's - A song about fried chicken. I really liked the beat though.
High - I enjoyed this song, nice song to mellow out to, until it was brought down with the Danny Brown feature. I like Danny Brown, but he most definitely does not fit on this track. You'll know what I mean if you take a listen.
Final Thoughts
Based on his previous work, Piñata most definitely shows improvement in Freddie's rapping skills. Lyricism is most definitely better, most of the features fit in nicely, I have very few complaints. Madlib definitely has to be accredited to alot of the enjoyment of the album as well, he and Freddie Gibbs just sit so nicely together for some reason. I liked what I heard, and I want more. If you're into the genre, take a listen.
8/10
