This is my problem;

I at the top of this rack im making i want to have LED downlighting, i have tried using lights and spot lights in this to make it show just on the top level, where as it goes right through.
can anyone help me with this

Try downloading different light rooms and see if it looks good.

Try adding some luminant material underneath and turn Global illumination on.
Produces better results.
