I've done this countless times on planes/at hotels/in coffee shops, etc...
I'll be explaining how it's done on Mac, but the premise is simple and I've also done it on Windows and I'm pretty sure it's almost easier on Windows which I'll explain.
Step 1. Find paid network WiFi. On planes this is "GoGo Inflight" usually.
Step 2. Open up a WiFi / network scanner, no not your computer's default one. I use Kismac. You want a scanner that shows you a list of access points / their MAC addresses, as well as the connected users, their mac addresses, and their data traffic (up & down).
Step 3. Find "Gogo Inflight" in your scanner. Look for the devices with the most download/upload data, these are the ones who are on the internet. Look at the MAC address of these devices. These are people who have paid for the internet on Gogo Inflight. Pick the one with the most data downloaded/uploaded.
Step 4. Take the MAC address and open up Terminal, type in sudo ifconfig en0 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (replace xx with the device earlier)
^ If your wireless card is not en0 then do en1, en2, try all if not working, this won't fuck you up permanently, restarting should reset your MAC address but your MAC address shouldn't really matter / make much of a difference as you can have it permanently fucked and not have to worry about anything.
Step 5. After your MAC address is spoofed, connect to the network. The network will think you are someone who has paid and let you in. Free internet, there you go.
As I said earlier, this is how it is done on Macs, but Windows computers do have Mac addresses as well and similar programs. In fact, instead of having to open up a terminal to change the Mac address of a windows computer, being able to modify it in Network Settings & Properties.
