Ok so I'm going to be learning you how to make this simple but nice looking text effect. Obs! This is not just one layer style. So lets get started!

TUTORIAL

STEP 1

So first you need to setup what text you like and with what background you want (Preferably Old paper or White)

STEP 2

Then you need to make a black and gray gradient overlay like this one

Now your text should look something like this!

STEP 3

Now you have to duplicate you text layer and make the top one into a smart object! Select your top Text and go into Filters>Distort>Ripple, Drag the Ripple up to what you like and press ok. Now merge both layers

STEP 4

Now you have to pick your eraser tool, and make the eraser size 500-800. Pick one grunge brush and start clicking on your text, Try picking different brushes to make it look better.

STEP 5

Now you select you text and go into Filters>Distort>ZigZag, Don't make this too much but it will make your text look a bit distorted. Now you can make a new layer under your text and use another grunge and start painting under your text, Drag down the opacity a bit and there you should have it!

Good tutorial. It gives a nice grunge feeling, but only thing is it doesn't seem to flow as much as it should. Perhaps after touches after the tutorial with the burn/smudge tool. Besides that, very informative and well done.
