Review
As I remember watching this movie as a kid, I decided to revisit it as an adult since I vaguely remembered anything about it except the fact that I liked it. Bulletproof Monk is the kind of film you have to go into with your brain turned off. It's pretty cheesy, and the special effects are hit or miss. But, I've gotta say, I still like it. As cheesy as they are, the fight scenes are enjoyable, and the comedy is on point. I really enjoyed the bit between the Monk and Jade:
Monk: Somehow I sense he has potential.
Jade: Really? I sense he's mostly full of shit.
Monk: But rich manure can fertilize fields which will feed millions.
If you go into the movie overthinking it, you won't really like it and you'll end up dropping it. You just have to sit back with some popcorn, watch it, and enjoy the kung-fu fighting. To me, this movie is a guilty pleasure. I shouldn't be liking it with everything that's wrong with it, but it's just so enjoyable. Everything about it just feels straight out of a comic book. If you're in the mood for a lighthearted action comedy to watch with someone, look no further. I'd have to give this movie a 3 out of 5, with the recommendation that you check it out.
Currently this movie is available on:
- Netflix
- Hulu
- Blu-Ray/DVD
