The real question is why is marijuana not legal?
It's a natural plant that grows in the dirt.
It has been used by hundreds of cultures for thousands of years with no problem. Its benefits have been well understood for centuries and those who choose to use it understand its potential negatives as well.
Do you know what's not natural?
80 year old guys with hard-ons. That's not natural.
But we got pills for that. And ads that tell you the tens of side effects of them.
But thats OK?
We're dedicating all our medical resources to keeping the old guys erect,
but we're putting people in jail for something that grows in the dirt?
The current state of this situation is a disgrace and must be changed.

Do I believe it should be legalized? Yes. Truth be told, it should never have been made illegal. I do not smoke it by any means, but the benefits of marijuana can not be overlooked because of the years of shame that were placed upon it. What truly started the shame toward it was because of a man by the name of Harry J. Anslinger. In 1930, the government formed the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, and placed Anslinger as the head of that division. It's main concerns were to deal with opiates and cocaine at the time (we are talking about the 1930's, when those drugs were huge back then because of the Alcohol Prohibition). He immediately realized that opiates and cocaine wouldn’t be enough to help build his agency, so he latched on to marijuana and started to work on making it illegal at the federal level. His main themes that helped support his push to make it illegal was racism and violence to help draw attention to it from the nation. It worked, as we can all tell now, as it is mainly illegal in most states. Modern society is now realizing that it is a big mistake and are now starting to take the needed steps legalize it throughout the nation. I personally think it should be legalized because of the medical benefits, and have you really seen any crimes commited because of a person being on marijuana? The nation is starting to get behind it, so I will as well.
