Ok everyone Microshit has officially claimed they have intentions of making Minecraft 2 a thing. In the article they state:

Asked directly about the possibility of Minecraft 2, Spencer said discussions about future extensions of the series--which he admitted not everyone may agree with--will come later.

As mentioned on page 2 of the thread by Wait this may not necisarily mean there will be a Minecraft 2 (It may just be another update like 1.9, etc.). However there is going to be a chance they will.

Personally, I see this and instantly think micro-transaction gold-mine. You have a player base full of little kids who don't know any better and probably would be totally OK with pacing $0.99 for a diamond. This is fine for kids like this, but for the playerbase that isn't comprised of 11 year olds, I feel like this will just put the nail in the coffin.

Seems pretty clear that they intend to extend upon the 'series'.

I'd just like to point out that it says discussions for future extensions will occur, not that it is for sure that they will extend the series. I would still say this does not confirm a sequel, but rather simply makes it a possibility.
