Did anyone take notes while learning Java?

Hello,

I just got a chance to read my book, Head First Java, that I ordered and received a few days ago. I just got a chance to read it (finally) and was wondering if anyone took notes while learning java or if it's unnecessary if I already have the book and can just bookmark the pages I would've taken notes on. I'm also trying to get some new studying habits because I want to learn Java without forgetting what I learned the day before. Thanks.
It is very important to take notes, as when writing things down and going over them, I am pretty sure that it is good for your brain and will help you memorize them. I took tons of notes when I first learned Java, and now I'm pretty decent with it.
Not at all.

Anyone who is halfway decent at a programming language will tell you that the best way to learn is by using it.

So, read up about a particular subject in Java then do it yourself. Taking notes works for other classes but doesn't help you when you actually need to write something.

I used to eat poop. I still do, but I used to.
I never took notes of any course. The only "course" I really took notes for was my drivers license...
Notes are not for everyone. Some need mind maps, others need illustration and others again need to read and/or listen and then tell others about what they learned, in order to remember.

Sure, I remember stuff when I write them down, but I don't actually manage to learn anything if I have to write it all down. I'll focus on writing it down then, instead of learning what's being said. Then I have to rely on my notes when I get back home, and by then I have no clue why I wrote what I did.

So no... notes are not always the solution to the problem.

No I just applied whatever I learned whenever I could. Notes aren't necessary for programming.

What? Got a problem with JavaScript?
I would apply the code and work with it however if there were small concepts that I constantly forgot I would write it down to refer to in the future. You won't learn a thing from reading a book cover to cover
Nope, I just tried stuff out after I saw something and learned it that way.
okay so most of you said "no" thats its not necessary and some said to try it out and ill remember it better so thats what I will try. I also have an android app that I can type my code in as well!

One last question : Does anyone follow the book fully? I felt like skipping a few puzzles I felt unnecessary and I feel like I could also just learn from google and googling a lot of things about java aswell

Yeah whenever I read a Java book I always over a few parts but dont do it too much because it can become a really bad habit
Notes are good to have, especially when you have summaries of the methods, such as .getText() etc.
Like reading fields, displaying data, formatting it.

Notes surely help
JavaDoc also helps me with stuff too so that's another reason I don't make notes.
I very rarely keep text notes unless something is going to behave in what I would deem an illogical manner. I have found however that making flow charts can help you understand many of the more complex facets of the JVM.
I don't know how to Java.

It was an image of the Java logo with "JavaScript" written beneath it. Yes, that made me sad. :P
