Whats with these new group userbars all of a sudden?

These are some fundamental design practises being shat on right here. Its a fucking userbar people. It's meant to inform people as to what group you are a part of...

Its like... "Hmmm... Is this dude a part of the weird blue orb and scribbles group?... Or like.. The abstract group?"

Or maybe i could join the random colours and tribal tattoo group?

Oh wait, none of them exist. 🤝

/rant

(i love you all btw)
Don't like the modern userbars at all. The old ones were way better, it actually tells you what the group does and a little about them just by looking at the bar. These days... :/
I agree, we need to have userbars like this one:

Or how about the leonardo da vinci fanclub?... leonardo da vinci / rave light enthusiasts? WHAT IS THIS THING?!

I can vouch for this thread. It is the truth.
I agree I have noticed quite a few groups just use a basic user bar with like one color or a swirl to make it look a little cool with an orb in the middle. I have no idea what group they are even par of when they are like that.

I think Polymath's accurately describe the idea of the groups.

You guys are failing too see that abstract is art and representative enough of the groups meanings if you understood real art....

Dose a smokey orb with clouds around it not signify what the club is really about, cause it dose to me

The main idea is meant to be recognizability rather than how you literally interpret it.

When you see this:

Do you go about calling it "the checkmark" and spend months trying to figure out what it is? (hopefully)Obviously not, because you should be able to recognize it as Nike even though it doesn't say Nike on it.

Recognizability via a symbol is much faster than having to read, it also is universal and understandable no matter what language it's interpreted in. Which is why all street signs are in symbols instead of words. Which is why all restroom signs look the same no matter what country you're in.
I'm not saying all the ub's are with that in mind, but if you're attacking symbols simply because you can't read it then that's just hilarious.

Not available for work at this time. Apologies for any inconveniences.

You sir, are confused. Please return when you have found your lost mind.

"Hm... should I buy this t-shirt with a checkmark on it, or the one with 3 slanted bars on it... decisions. decisions."

Brand recognizability via a symbol is much faster than having to read (its also universal in terms of languages).

Nah I'm not attacking symbolism, i understand that fine. I dont think its working with these userbars though. Not even slightly. I made this thread once i noticed that I was only one person among many that are looking at these and going "What the fuck is that?". :)

I could be really interested in what the group does, but I don't even know what they do because their userbar is a mix of colours and effects over a confusing and complicated design with little to no actual message being sent through it.

Most groups actually look for appeal over communicating ideas. People are drawn like flies to shiny looking userbars. That's the audience we're dealing with, we're only delivering it to them. There's no point blaming the designers about the userbars, should blame the majority of HF users for their taste.

Kinda sounds like the easy way out to me. When I used to play here people would have communicated their message and made it look good instead of compromising. Also you cant really blame a designers work on his consumers. You can try but it doesn't really work at the end of the day. I'm not exactly trying to blame any designers here either, just pointing out that this current trend is a little ridiculous. :3
Erryone is using the userbar space as an exposition of how much time the group was willing to spend on finding someone who's going to make them the most unrelated, badass gfx userbar-like thingy. It's not connected to anything any more, just random artsy stuff. I don't think I mind too much though, sure, they're kind of stupid and pointless, but they look nice, aye?
