Code Geass comes to mind with this. It's not really a romance anime, but does have "adventure fight shit and stuff" so there's that.

I'm about halfway through SAO, so far so good.

Edit: I watched Code Geass a few months back - for the second time. Truly a lovely series, give it a try.
