I'm writing a creative writing piece for my English class.
It's based off of a poem, called "Come on, come back" by Stevie Smith.
I am far from a literary genius, so I am looking for some help in making sure that the writing is good and that I can, more importantly, fill this gap that I cannot figure out how to fill.

I cannot think of what I could put there - I need something that links to the next sentence.
I was thinking: The countless bodies that were deprived of their honour could not choose a side.

Thoughts? Improvements?
