Short background of the speaker:
Dr.Betances that gentleman in the video was an illiterate man growing up not knowing much how to read or speak. His mentor Mary Yamasaki a Japanese woman taught him everything leading up to him acquiring multiple bachelors degrees.
Books are one of the most amazing inventions of all time. Through them we could learn so much from people that have lived before us. Life in a nutshell is that we're a product of our environment. The people we listen to as kids are our mentors and they teach us things from our everyday life skills to showing us things through life experiences. I think that it's amazing how books such as biographies, auto biographies, non-fiction narratives teach us ALOT! Especially when they're from people who have lived before us, again lived BEFORE us. Books can aid you in having a wise mentor.
Today I saw the user Gains with a user title "Knowledge is power" I had a flashback of when I was in college and I saw a video that really inspired me to read. Today I want to share with you that video and hopefully it inspires some of you on this forum, because this video changed my life. I thanked my professor at the time in the community college I was attending for showing me this video because it's made a great impact on me as I was never much of a reader. In fact I probably wouldn't be reading as much as I do now, if it wasn't for that time of my life seeing this video that inspired me. Anyway, reading has taught me so how much! I can't stress enough to tell people its AMAZING! It's learning things from ones that have lived before you, just as you use to listen to your parents as a kid teaching you life skills, books are your mentors too because they teach you so much from others that have lived before you so just imagine how much wisdom you can gain.
Share your opinions regarding what you just saw. I love reading responses.
Didn't watch the video, but I totally agree that books are amazing. I love reading, it just gives you much more space for your imagination than watching a movie or tv series ..

That wasn't what I was trying to share. Sure we have all heard "Reading is amazing, go read more." Watch the video, I promise it's not a waste of 4 minutes of your life. I personally promise you that. Dr.Betances that gentleman in the video was an illiterate man growing up not knowing much how to read or speak. His mentor Mary Yamasaki a Japanese woman taught him everything leading up to him acquiring multiple bachelors degrees.

Thank you for taking your time to see it. I love sharing this with people.
I agree with you, knowledge is power and reading is vital to gain knowledge. I think people in general read less and less, especially young people. Well, their loss. 🙂
