I've been thinking about having a hot key activated Task manager application. which integrates with almost all windows applications interface, for one click Process Kill. because ending process manually with built in windows task manager consumes time and really bothers when you are programming or having problem multitasking apps. I'm already aware that we can bind the hotkey with windows Task manager in the first place. but then, what I'm excited about is Killing " Multi Processes" with drag and drop functionality I want to add to this Task manager app I have in mind.
Features insight
- Free in the very first place.
- Clean custom GDI [ free themes like Aeonhacks should suffice.]
- Can be based upon native functionality of windows [ taskkill.exe ]
- Process drag n drop into the empty area to kill without any notification like [ taskkill.exe /f ] An android notification bar utility and this same feature exists in apps like Rocketdock.
- Should have process kill button integrated in running windows apps to end any running window application and its process instantly. Example - Teamviewer

Opening the program each time is as much work as going to taskmanager each time.

I agree.
But I'm thinking why not just add " Processes Only" instead of " Services" as Microsoft Taskmanager app does. and still, using just drag and drop to kill process will be really cool along with using the ability to bind this smart taskmanager app with hotkey which I know can be used in the context of windows taskmanager too. but I bet that's up for debate.
so overall. It will be a really great app. just think about it already mate. 😈

Maybe if you could right click the task icon and click force quit?

if you have a nice design in mind i can do the gdi; this is a pretty cool idea.
The idea is good but you can't expect people to write the code for you. I suggest reading up on some of the code that would be involved in making this.
POC code working...
Controls
Listbox, Panel
Code Dim DragProcess As Integer = Nothing
Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
ListBox1.Items.Clear()
For Each P As Process In Process.GetProcesses
ListBox1.Items.Add(P.ProcessName)
Next
End Sub
Private Sub Panel1_DragOver(sender As Object, e As DragEventArgs) Handles Panel1.DragOver
e.Effect = DragDropEffects.All
End Sub
Private Sub Panel1_Paint(sender As Object, e As PaintEventArgs) Handles Panel1.Paint
Dim rect As New Rectangle(0, 0, Panel1.Width - 3, Panel1.Height - 3)
e.Graphics.DrawRectangle(Pens.Red, rect)
End Sub
Private Sub Panel1_DragDrop(sender As Object, e As DragEventArgs) Handles Panel1.DragDrop
If e.Data.GetDataPresent(ListBox1.SelectedItem.GetType) Then
Dim str As String = ListBox1.Items(DragProcess)
Dim processes As Process() = Process.GetProcesses
For Each P As Process In Process.GetProcesses()
If P.ProcessName = str Then
Debug.Print("kill process")
End If
Next
End If
End Sub
Private Sub Panel1_DragEnter(sender As Object, e As DragEventArgs) Handles Panel1.DragEnter
Debug.Print(e.Data.GetFormats(False).ToString)
Debug.Print(ListBox1.SelectedItem.GetType.ToString)
If e.Data.GetDataPresent(ListBox1.SelectedItem.GetType) Then
e.Effect = DragDropEffects.All
Else
e.Effect = DragDropEffects.None
End If
End Sub
Private Sub ListBox1_MouseDown(sender As Object, e As MouseEventArgs) Handles ListBox1.MouseDown
Dim item As Integer = ListBox1.IndexFromPoint(New Point(e.X, e.Y))
Dim s As String = ListBox1.Items(item)
DragProcess = item
DoDragDrop(s, DragDropEffects.All)
End Sub
The rest is up to you lot :D
So you want a VB.NET app that has a list of active processes, and when you drag it to an area it is killed?

You got it right. Its like native task manager in Android ICS. 🤝

Here's a base application I made for it. You can scan it yourself if you don't trust it:
https://www.mediafire.com/?i4i3nkf8wt7j2k2
EDIT: Just updated this. Same link. The process list now automatically updates and contains more information. You can click and drag multiple items to the panel. You can press delete on the keyboard to exit. You can press F5 on the keyboard to refresh list.
If someone wants to make a GDI for this, all I need is form, listview and a panel that supports having text centered on it.
If this isn't an actual release, then don't tag it as such.

Thanks for putting your efforts in releasing this most basic yet foundational framework based version.
I'm optimistic that some contributor like yourself would sure come forward in helping you making this a fine application. 🤝

I've scanned the file and it actually returns some detections.

Probably because it closes processes. The thread owner has the source.
So, what's easier in this than taskmgr?
