Hello guys. I recently got a 4K monitor (or UHD if you may, it's 'only' 3840x2160) and I had a lot of issues with YouTube playing 4K.
I use Chrome as my daily browser, but for some weird reason I couldn't view 4K videos at a stable framerate.
I created a thread on Linus Tech Tips' forum, but later discovered the issue causing it and how to fix it!
I run at about 150% scaling (screw you, Windows). At 100% I did not experience any stutter what so ever, but everything was too small.
To fix your issue, you need to follow my steps:
1) Close Chrome. You can run taskkill /F /PID chrome.exe in CMD to kill all Chrome (and Canary) processes!
2) Download and install Canary HERE
3) Open this folder: "%AppData%\..\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data" (Type it into Run)
4) Copy the folder "Default"
5) Go back to \Google\ and go into \Chrome SxS\User Data
6) Rename the Default folder to Default backup
7) Paste in your old Default folder
8) Open Canary and it should be exactly as before
This issue has been fixed for me by using the Canary browser, so that's what you want to do instead! Canary is simply the beta version of Chrome, but it's essentially the same!
Enjoy and I hope your issue will be fixed!
