Removing Written Protection on USB

I acidently junked my old thread (meant to junk a diffrent one)

Anyway I can't format my usb drive because of written protection.

The main suggestions I found through the internet

Using disk part in cmd
  • followed the steps of clearing readonly

  • whenever I typed "clean"

  • The media is write protected (yes, I was using admin)

    Using regedit

  • Created StartageDevicePolicies Folder

  • Made WriteProtect

  • Changed the value to 0

Device manager doesn't appear to work it just says read-only can't do anything to it.

As well as MANY other tools.
Most of them said that they were write protected

If anyone has ANY suggestions on what to do please post them I'm running out of ideas and Need to use this.
Do you need data off that drive? Or you just want to format it?

I just want to be able to use it.

I don't care if the data on it is lost or not.
Have you tried clearing attributes or clean the whole drive?

yip yip.

both say it's written protected.
Have you tried manufacture utilities, if there is any?
archangel.dmitry is right, normally the best solution is manufacturer utilities. Anyway, you can try with this one:

Tried this.

Said read only error

It's a scandisk usb
Have you tried connecting the stick to a different computer or/and different OS?
I know gparted is a power tool. But it runs on Linux. You could try running Live CD and see if you can do anything about your problem from Linux.
These are some other options:

Also, you can try this:

Quote:The problem here is unable to copy files into USB drive such as flash drives, memory card and Ipod. When your USB flash drive, or memory card is write-protected, you will receive the following error message:
Cannot copy files and folders, drive is write protected
Cannot format the drive, drive is write protected
The disk is write protected
Remove write protection or use another disk
Media is write protected

This may caused by virus or malware script which modified
the registry to make any drive write protect when connected to the computer, You can remove write protection from your usb flash drive or memory card using the below method:

1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter, this will open
the registry editor.

2. Navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Note: If
the registry key StorageDevicePolicies does not exist, you will need to create it manually.

3. Double click the key WriteProtect in the right window and set the value to 0 in the Value Data Box and press OK button
4. Restart your computer and try copying files into your USB drives

Try to repair diskpermissions. I had to do this several times because my 2tb harddrive keeps getting corrupt.
