Hacking .DAT File

Hi hoping you guys can help

I have License file for piece of hardware (automotive) that i wish to decrypt so i can understand how the license file checks against the hardware serial number before allowing you to use it.

The file is a .dat and i have tried Notepad++ but all of the information still appears scrambled can anyone assist me or point me in the direction of being able to reverse engineer the file so i can read it play with it and see if i can get it to work?
Data files can contain custom data. I mean data that the serial checking program only can understand. Or maybe it is obfuscated.
Ahhh okay bugger - basically i have a copy of the updated software from another guys machine - need it to run on mine. Or alternatively someone to see if they can bypass a server to obtain the latest updates.
Your best bet is to crack the program not the dat file.

The program runs ontop of WindowsCE

Is anyone willing to take a look at it?

h t t p : / / w w w. autoboss . net /en/v30update.asp

If someone can bypass the security on that to allow a full download / update it would be great

anyone fancy giving that a go - or is there any more information you require? let me know!
