Any tips for a beginner? (NEWBIE)

i have studied programming in the past, and i know there are many threads talking about how to begin hacking, but i would like your personal thoughts for a newbie skid like me. Much appreciated.😉
👍 welcome to hf i guess and enjoy ur stay
Just browse the threads, I'm also pretty new around here, a lot of interested things :-)
Welcome to HF friend, there are a lot of tutorials on hackforums so you've just got to look through the sections, and it really depends on what you want to learn.
I personally recommend that you learn to program, to hide yourself, i also recommend you do white hat hacking!

Welcome to HF.

Having a background in programming (even minimal) is exceptionally helpful in this realm. However I want to point out "hacking" is a VERY broad topic in general. So asking "How to start Hacking" is somewhat useless as it does not really clarify what aspect of technology you are interested in Hacking or Exploiting.

To start I would highly recommend Hitting up The Networking Forum and the Premium Hacking Tutorial sections as a good basis to start.

But as mentioned above, wander the forums and read the topics. Some will be more useful than others, but combined they should give you a good grasp of how and where to start for your specific area of desire.
welcome to hf!

Welcome to the forums.

Be mindful of the trolls, the flamers, the attackers, and skids pretending to know what they don't, and just obey the rules. Getting started as a hacker, as Armada said, is difficult and covers a very broad spectrum off topics and technologies, but you have an advantage over most people since you have programming experience. A large aspect of hacking is understanding code. In truth, the definition of a hacker is "someone who is able to alter or create program code to cause a computer or program to perform tasks it was not intended to. Your goal as a hacker is not to break things, but to understand technology on a deeper level than any one field in IT. Networking engineers, web developers, application developers, hardware and assembly gurus shouldn't be able to hold a candle to you in comparison to what you know.

To get started, you should really understand computers intimately in how they work on their lowest level. Understanding things like the OSI model, how an Operating System works, how the computer hardware interacts with each other and how signals travel over a motherboard and through networks. Later on, you get intimate with things like TCP/IP packets and being able to read network traffic, which is typically easy to read and understand if you spend some time with it. Knowing how networking, subnetting, IP Addressing with DHCP versus Static, what a Domain Controller does, how Web and Mail servers work, and other things like that will make you better equipped to manage and defend a network from attackers, or, in your case, understand how the Administrator of a network has set up his network and how you can side-step his security measures. Studying IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems) and IPS (Intrusion Prevension Systems) which are Antivirus and Firewalls, including ASAs, port scanners, network and traffic monitors like Wireshark, or on the defense side: Solar Winds, ZenDesk, ZenMap (Nmap with a gui). The list goes on.

Cyber Forensics is also important. Forensics is the study of evidence left behind when something happens on a computer, studying logs, trace routes, and events that occur on a computer in order to discern when and if an attack has occured and where it came from. The act of retaliation against an attacker or stopping an attack from happening is what is called "Counter Intrusion." If you are an attacker, covering your tracks is the last but certainly not the least important step in the process. Making sure that you cannot be followed and identified is what keeps you out of prison. For me, since I am a penetration tester, this isn't my goal, but I can perform this step to prove to my clients how easy/difficult it was to erase proof of my presence in their network.

There are further techniques in hacking, most prevalent being the art of Exploitation, where you find vulnerabilities (mistakes in the code that allow you to bypass security measures) and exploit them by executing code of yours or someone else's design that a remote system will accept, even if you do not have authorization and/or cannot authenticate by means of more conventional attacks.

As I said, Hacking is a BROAD topic. I could go on for days...and I did! In my signature, you will find a tutorial that I have written to help young newbs of this field get familiar with the basics of hacking, and introducing you to the ethics of hacking as well. Believe it or not, there is such a thing as an ethical hacker, and we do happen to make quite a bit of money doing what we do. If you're interested, click on the image in my signature and you will be redirected to my tutorial thread here on the forums.

Good luck in your pursuites and please do let me know if there is any feedback you wish to give or if you have further questions. My contact information is there on the thread and everyone is free to contact me with questions or feedback on my work. It is a work in-progress, and is continually receiving updates. Give it a look every few weeks and you might notice a new section has been added on new topics for you to study.

May the Force be with you, OP.
