Cam's multiple ways of understanding/obtaining IP's
Understanding the basics
So I'm going to start off very "beginner-ish". First of all What IS this internet? Well one definition I think is most appropriate is this : "a computer network consisting of a worldwide network of computer networks that use the TCP/IP network protocols to facilitate data transmission and exchange" (wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn)
Definition of IP Address (A.K.A Internet Protocol Address) : The standard way of identifying a computer that is connected to the Internet, much the way a telephone number identifies a telephone on a telephone network.
www.west.asu.edu/achristie/545/webgloss.htm
So basically we've opened up the opportunity to communicate with people all over the world, which is what we do on HackForums 👍
Now let's start off with some basics.
Using command prompt
So some of you may or may not know, but I know using command prompt was one of the first ways i learned to obtain IP's. One of these is typing in your cmd (cmd = command prompt) window "netstat -n". So netstat stands for "Network Statistics", and it displays network connections (both incoming and outgoing), routing tables, and a number of network interface statistics.
So now you may be wondering, Cam why do we have to type in the "-n". Well "-n" displays active TCP connections, however, addresses and port numbers are expressed numerically and no attempt is made to determine names. So as we can see this is very "primitive", and is not very useful in determining someones IP 100%
So here is our first picture: [IMG]http://i48.[censored].com/1z1si1x.jpg[/IMG]
As you can see it's pretty primitive. This is just an example.
Now before we go further PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read this part!! Some techniques described here won't work for EVERYTHING! If you've come to read the tutorial to see if you can get IP's directly off of RuneScape or other games, I'm afraid your in for a disappointment. I will teach you other techniques to get IP's from Runescape etc.
IF you insist on using netstat -n because your simple like that (i know i was 😁) Then I find useful ways of going about this is if your on live chats, which I will also talk about later, it's useful if you know where they live, specifically their city, and you can go through your list of IP's in your CMD window and use ip locator site to match it. (Examples : www.ip2location.com/free.asp or http://www.geobytes.com/iplocator.htm?getlocation)
OK great, so to re-cap, you've learned about what the internet is, and the basics of viewing connections. Now let's learn about getting ip's from websites.
Getting the IP's of websites
Ok, so first thing some people may ask. Why would you want the IP address of a site? Well I'd prefer not to go into detail, but uhhmmm "bad things" can be done in having the IP of a website, such as DDoSing it.. etc.
Finding the IP of websites : There are numberous ways, we can look back at our CMD window again for this though. One way of obtaining a websites ip is by typing "ping [Website URL]". Once you press enter after typing this, you should get a reply with the site's IP. Another way is typing "tracert [site URL]" Then a reply should come with the IP once again.
Here is the example : [IMG]http://i45.[censored].com/ra9mv4.png[/IMG]
So as we can see the site's IP is : 204.12.0.50
OR as an alternative you can use this site : http://www.selfseo.com/find_ip_address_of_a_website.php
Getting IP's on X-box
O.K, I think this is a tutorial within itself so I'm going to link you to a youtube video made by a guy I've looked it over and he does an alright job explaining it, if you disagree, then I'm sure there are plenty of guides everywhere that you can search for, anyways here's the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQk6Zw_-IrI.
Live Chats/Microphone Chats
O.K so this is a big thing in obtaining IP's in a lot of games. I know for sure as Runescape player if i ask someone to go on skype/vent with me, a lot of them say "No thanks I'd rather not get DDoSed". So just some quick advice, it's good to put on an act instead of asking people straight up to go on skype. For more information, try searching in the "Social Engineering" section of the forums. So I'm going to explain what programs will usually allow you to obtain IP's using the program Commview. Commview basically is like using CMD netstat -n, except its more effecient. So from experience, heres some live chat programs i find you can get IP's off of : Skype, MSN Microphone Chat, Steam, Oovoo. So as you can see, most of these I've listed are usually meant for 1 on 1 chat (Yes i know a lot of these can involve group calls/chats). So to find IP's 1 on 1 here, download a program called "Commview". So for a free trial here is the download : http://www.tamos.com/bitrix/redirect.php...es/cv6.zip
OR you can search around for a cracked version, although I'm not giving out a direct link for different reasons.
OK so once you have Commview, it's time to go on your live chat, steam/skype etc. and give your "friend/victim" a call. By friend/victim i mean the person of whom your trying to get their IP address! Once your in a call with them, press the "Play button" on Commview, and a bunch of IP's will start loading up. Now the most effecient way of getting the persons IP now is re-arranging your IP's by "number of bytes" which should be on the far right at the top of all the IP's. Now the one with the most bytes SHOULD be your victim's IP. Now PLEASE NOTE **This isn't always necessarily the case, if your in games or other things that is taking up a lot of space, their incoming IP may also be way up there too with your call/chat**
OK so we've learned how to get IP's from various chats now. Some of you may be asking, Cam what about getting IP's from vent/runescape/teamspeak? Well like i said before, these are places where your connecting to a server, which has multiple people connected to it, and while your still technically connecting to other people, your still connecting through that server. Whereas on Skype and these 1 on 1 chats, your connecting directly.
IP Grabbing/Obtaining IP's off of IRC Explanation
Ok so this is going to be more for people who lean towards gaming, and want to disconnect their victims. So ip grabbing becoming an increasing way of people getting IP's. There are sites now where you signup and you can create your own IP grabber. I'll give you one site example which i used a while ago : http://www.syntaxmaster.info
If you sign up there and go to "Software/Tools" and then "IP Grabber" you can easily make your own. Once you do that you can use various sites like dot.tk or tinyurl to hide your grabber. Alternatively you can search hackforums for some PHP grabbing scripts or more, as there are some fine tutorials on this.
Now there are other ways of getting IP's off of IRC. One alternative is if your an ircOP on the irc server, you will be able to see IP's. Now if your not a server admin, you could get a server admin to leak you IP's, but lots of server admins don't do this, and it wouldn't be a good idea to ask unless you know them really well. Another way is to trick them into "setting their mode to -x". This is when their IP will also become visible instead of you getting a hostmask when you "whois" them.
For Ventrilo/other programs.
O.K so I'm going to make this part short in sweet. Basically the only known ways right now of getting IP's through ventrilo are the following: If you have RCON powers on the vent, you can type "status" in RCON and it will give you everyones IP on the vent. If your the actual owner or have the panel login, you can visit your control panel for ventrilo and see the IP logs, which is a lot more useful. Your last option if you don't have admin is you can convince them to click on an IP grabber, or try and hack admin to the vent server (although i've rarely seen vent hacked).
Special Section For Runescapers
So I'm now going to share a technique that's had the most success for me on Runescape. I'll go to a bounty hunter world or PvP world. I'll have my main account that i want to kill my victim on, and I'll have a lvl 3 dummy account that I'm going to use. Now if you don't know already, RuneScape shows your last IP on the login screen, so you can have a general idea now of what I'm about to tell you to do with your dummy account.
Heres the example if you haven't already seen this : [IMG]http://i46.[censored].com/qwyer5.png[/IMG]
So thats the login screen and the blanked out part is where you'll see their hostname/ip. If your having trouble understanding the concept of a hostname, just type in those letter and numbers you see there and go to this site : http://www.hcidata.info/host2ip.htm
OK so where was I.... ahh yes I'm about to tell you about what to do with your main/dummy accounts. So first go on your main and find a victim, then say something along the lines of "Hey if you can help me transfer some runes/supplies from my noob to my main, i'll give you a trick." So this does 2 things, first it establishes trust with your victim, and secondly, it gives you your way to find him a kill him (when your tricking him you kill him), which is the perfect opportunity. So if they accept your offer, they will log on to your dummy account, and give you whatever supplies you've setup for them to give you. Now unless they're completely greedy/idiotic, they shouldn't change the password (it's only happened to me once). Now you log back on to your dummy account and get their IP, then hop on your main and kill them. (Please note * This is assuming you can DoS/DDoS them or have some way of hitting them offline***).
Ending of my guide
Well thanks for reading if you've made it this far. I know I'm not a great hacker, but my goal here is to be a nice user, with good quality tutorials/posts. I will try to answer as many questions and I'm sorry if some things were confusing this was only my 3rd guide. Comments on things i could improve are greatly appreciated, also known as "constructive criticism".
I will be adding on to this guide most likely and I know there will be somethings i may have mistaken, but I have reviewed this guide to the best of my ability and made sure the grammar is decent. Thanks for reading and best of luck on obtaining IP's - Cam G
