Ubuntu

I honestly have no clue... (Booting error)

Ok so let me explain.

My laptop is an HP Envy m4 1015dx

It was running Windows 8.1 and then I decided I wanted Ubuntu.

I put a bootable disk in (right Architecture and a Stable version 14.04 LTS) and whenever I boot up. Immediately before the install menu, I get some EFI error?

Quote: EFI won't load (something to do with EFI)

Ok so after that quick error flashes I am brought to the install menu. I tried installing Ubuntu and then my laptop fan and laptop sounded like it was playing CS: GO on ultra. (Just pretty loud not insane lol) and then my computer immediately turns off.

Same thing with Try Ubuntu Without Installing.

I tried this whole thing on Legacy Boot

The official IRC #Ubuntu said it might have something to do with "nomodeset"? And linked me to this article: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132

I really have no clue. A while back, probs last year, I ran ubuntu fine on the same computer so I am really confused.

Also I tried this with Debian (that is when I first formatted my drive and got rid of Windows) and I could get to the grub boot loader but I couldn't get passed it)
(The debian version I tried to install also had the wrong arch i386 if that helps somehow)
This error occurs when your boot loader is corrupted. Here's a few things I'd recommend you to try.

1. Check if your BIOS is outdated. If so, install the new drivers for your BIOS.
2. Execute these commands below as sudoer.

PHP Code

<?php
efibootmgr
-c --disk /dev/sdX --part
efibootmgr
-v

The efibootmgr -c command added two entries 0000 and 0002. The Boot0002* Linux HD entry first in boot order which is not correct(The 0000 entry is correct.) You can also remove unwanted things by executing this command.

PHP Code

<?php
efibootmgr
-b 2 -B

If that does not fix your problem, try this.

1. Make sure that Secure Boot is disabled in your BIOS. Insert the live CD and boot it via UEFI. The CD's GRUB menu will show. the Press "c" to get to the command line.

Once in command line, execute this command

PHP Code

<?php
configfile
(hd0,gpt1)/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg

Adapt the grub command above if you have a different EFI system partition.

After your system has booted from the hard disk, it should be enough to re-install grub on the EFI system partition and to register it with the firmware via grub-install. Execute this command,

PHP Code

<?php
sudo grub
-install
Thanks I will try this! I hope this works.
