The $3,000 one is newer. You have to be careful when buying from 3rd party sellers. I'd personally buy it off Apple.com just to be safe.

neither one of those even have a discrete GPU why would you spend so much on a sub par laptop.

Build quality is subjective. Might have you beat.
OSX is good except it doesn't have support for the Autodesk Suite I run nor is it good for gaming.
282 PPI > Your 220 PPI retina display
Steelseries > Macbook Pro keyboard
4.2 lbs < 4.4 lbs
Two M.2 SSDs + 1tb HDD > 256gb SSD
Macbook pro is slightly slimmer... by 7 hundredths of an inch.
Easy 8 hours of battery if web browsing. Rendering... 1.5 hours tops.
Price: $600 less than closest spec'd MBP.

The only master race is who can put out the best products for the least amount of money. There are even better options available if price truly is no object.

In regards to your original question, go on Apple's site and add the MBP you want to the shopping cart and act like you are going to checkout. The model number is listed once it's in the cart.
