Introduction
- The Website Showcase and Reviews section is one of the more openly used forums on HackForums. It's a vital part to the Webmaster tab and not to mention it's an amazing opportunity for the community given to us by Omniscient. This section alone has helped me as well as many others build a small website into something bigger. So today I want to help you guys get the most out of your advertisement and also help you get your thread alone, more notice. Also please remember that all Rules and Etiquette still apply within this section as they do the entire forum.
Sectional Rules
- I want to address the rules within this forum, like many others on Hack Forums we have to follow rules specified towards this section. If you want to keep your advertisement on Hack Forums you will want to follow these rules. Additionally before you decide to make a thread in this forum you will want to make sure that your website does not break the Official Rules and the Sectional Rules. Note that if your forum breaks the rules and you post it regardless, you may become subject to a warning or even a ban on your forum account here. Post at your own discretion.
- No competitor sites that have hacking section.
- Do not post sites you do not own.
- One thread per site.
- No referral links like adf.ly.
- No posting of sites requiring a login to view.
- Above are the sectional rules, now please allow me to break these rules down for you and explain to the best of my ability what these are and examples of breaking these rules. You can see these rules at the top of the sub forum which you've probably scrolled past a thousand times. Please remember if your website breaks any of the rules you can not post your website & if your website is changed and does break these rules you could be subject to a warning/ban.
- No competitor sites that have hacking section.
If you own a forum website or any website that discusses Hacking, Whitehat, Greyhat or Blackhat you can not advertise it on Hack Forums. If your website contains any sections similar to the ones that fall under the Hacks, Exploits, and Various Discussions category then it can not be shared here.
Do not post sites you do not own.
The only people who should be making threads within this section advertising a website is the owner of that website. This means you cannot share a website owned by a friend to try get more people on the website. If they want to share their website here then they will need to register an account and make the thread.
One thread per site.
If you own a website and want to share it here you may but only once. This means each website is limited to one thread. The reason being that it will reduce spam within the forum and not to mention it allows for more websites to be presented when accessing the forum. If you make multiple threads about your website you may be subject to punishment.
No referral links like adf.ly.
When you've posted your thread it must contain a direct ink to the website. This means you can not have links which redirect through services like adf.ly in which you gain money from people trying to access your website. This is a site wide rule which must be followed.
No posting of sites requiring a login to view.
If you are posting a forum then you must make all sections visible to guests, if a visitor is required to sign-up to see the forums/website you can not share your website. The users of Hack Forums should not need to sign up in order to review your website on here. These threads are subject to closure or being junked.
If you aren't sure if your website would break the rules you can post in Rules, Announcements, News, and Feedback or contact a member of staff - Show Staff. I would suggest contacting a member of the Staff Team in regards to issues with advertising. They usually respond rather quickly and it will save you making a thread that could be seen as an advertising strategy. Proceed with caution when making a thread.
How to make a good impact
- Members here don't want to do a lot of reading, especially when they are more interested in seeing what your websites about and how it looks. You want to show them they key features of your website to get the maximum effect from advertising your website in this section. You should present them with information about your website but not too much all at once.
Example
Title
Key Features
Description
Additionally you want to display some graphics like the website logo and maybe even a few re-sized screenshots of the website and it's key features. Keep it short and sweet for the best results. Leave them wanting to know more which will get them to visit your website.
Constructing your thread
- It's very very important to format your thread. The layout of the thread will be the biggest benefit of getting Hack Forums users to have a look at your website. How do I do that you ask? Well before the user even reaches your thread, they see the title, you need to have a very catchy title that will make them visit the thread. The secret to getting a good title is including the Name of the Website, the Type of Website and some of the Important Features.
Examples
Nasyr - News Website - The latest Gaming and Technology news.
Nasyr - General Forum - Awards - Active - Free Upgrade - More!
You see how I covered the facts in those two examples? The Name, Type and Important Features. These will drive people to view the thread. Remember members see the thread title before they see the contents of the thread! Make an impact for the best results.
Presentation
- Lets keep in mind there are many ways to present your thread to the public, there is the text method and the image method (thread design). This is your decision but personally I think a thread design goes a long way and makes the thread look better. Regardless of which option you go with it's all about the content, the final delivery to the members. Lets have a look at an example of both and you can decide which looks better.

Getting more notability
- Do you feel like your advertisement is getting lost and you are not getting enough attention? Well there is always the option to invest some money into your thread, yes I mean thread, you can purchase a sticky. When you purchase a sticky your thread will appear at the very top of the first page when members access the section. Buying a sticky in the section will benefit you - Advertising and Paid Stickies. The average price for a thread to be stuck in this section is $20 a week or $75 for the month! The price is $40 per week in The Lounge which is a massive benefit.
