Best way to get a Facebook page started?

So I invested $2.50 in facebook ads, just to get a sense of what could happen if I invest more.

So far, ive spent $.50 and Ive gotten 1 like from some Abduel Jihad dude.

I targeted people in the US, UK, and Canada. The ad started ~9PM last night, and will end ~9PM tonight, im hoping to see more likes throughout the daytime, but I would like to get some more tips on getting a small userbase started.

Your budget is quite too low, you should invest more $, to prove facebook you are realible person. Also, it depends what your page is all about, because if it's a niche product or comunity it could be uneasy task to find new fans. Also, try to create atractive, but subtle banner, this means a lot too :) however, if you have a website, try to gain fans from it by including social icons on your website :) Another hint, try to post funny photos or useful content that people could share it across the social networks, this is how you could get more fans too :)
Be persistent and stay with it. Giving up on it early can lead to failure that could have been success
You have to first understand that you are relying on facebook's algorithm to optimize your ad for you. You invested $2.50 to target how many of millions of people? So think about that logically for that amount you expect facebook to put your ad in front of that size of an audience?

It doesn't work like that.

You need to scale way down in your target audience for whatever your niche interests are.
You need to split those demographics into three different ads to see which are responding, $5 budget on each with an audience size of around 100-500k for that budget.

If you want an audience size of millions you need like a 50$ ad spend.

Seriously, you need to invest more. And make sure you have a lot of great and engaging content before you do the targeting and paying for an ad. People will want to see what do you have to offer and is your page fun to read and follow.
