So my first two years in high school I was often the target of a lot of bullies. I was fat. Fat and really ugly to be honest. I was an easy target with a low self esteem. I was friends with the rejects and so on and so forth.
There was a particular set of bullies in the class ahead of me. They were the typical popular kids. One of them did wrestling, another did basketball, and the last one was just socially gifted and hung out with them and seemed to lead them in a way.
They would often times make snide comments about my weight and about my features. It was never pretty. It gave my mom a heart ache to see her son so distraught by kids from school. I can honestly say that bullies are some of the worst people in the world.
Luckily, between my 2nd and 3rd year of high school I turned my life all around and lost a ton of weight, grew a few more inches (although I was tall to begin with honestly, always have been, I think I grew from six foot to six foot two). I ended up with actually a really athletic and muscular type of body and even though there was a small layer of fat (I was like 15-18% body fat) I was a muscular/burly kind of fat cause I hit the weights hard. I think I weighed 200 lbs or so and was able to bust out 25 pull ups (for those of you who don't know, this is pretty impressive for that weight and I broke my school record for that weight).
I was no longer the target of bullies whatsoever. In fact I still had a victim mentality and popular kids would often try to include me in conversation but I'd just be like "wtf are they talking to me for?" That's when I realized it was more about your self esteem than about your looks, cause I looked at the popular kids who were making fun of me... not all of them were so pretty, they just had confidence and swagger to be honest.
Fast forward a few more years and everything has been pretty great for me socially, I pretty much got whatever I wanted or put my mind to.
What happened next shook my community to its core.
My senior year, near the end of everything, those three kids had just moved back into the state from another state. I believe they went to Cali and had like a six month weed and cocaine binge or something.
They needed more money. So what they did was they went to one of their parent's houses, who adopted them, and held them at gunpoint. Things didn't go right or something and this kid literally ended up killing his mom and dad, leaving behind his brother all alone, as an orphan (who from I understand is a really swell kid, he's nice to everyone, star athlete and so on - it's a huge shame).
He's spending life in prison without parole right now. I don't know if the other two got punishments as hard, but I do know they're getting what they deserve for assisted homicide.
This just goes to show high school means nothing to everyone out there who is worried about their popularity. Don't let it effect you. You never know where all those people are going to end up.
