Just a heads up that I spent most of my time this week finishing up the new server. I expected to be moved already but time hasn't allowed it. The work I did was mainly security and making sure it has all the features and services I need. There are still a couple modules I plan to add to Nginx but after that it will be 100% production ready and I'll move the site.
Once we're moved I'll upgrade MyBB to 1.8x branch and that's when the shit will hit the fan. We'll see how well it goes but I expect a buttload of problems. Plugins will break and I'll have to build a new theme.
As for new theme. I have what many might consider good news. I'm going to try and recreate our old theme (Black Reign). We'll also revert to the old userbars for the official groups.
I wanted to keep most of this a surprise but I figured some of you are anxious for some changes around here. I am as well.
The new setup is definitely going to allow us a lot more options when it comes to resources. Options and features I wouldn't dare consider on our current servers should be no problem on the new setup.
One major change will be search, which is totally broken and hardly functions. MySQL 5.5x added good InnoDB support but it doesn't have full-text search which means I had to move to a separate solution for search and we use a Sphinx plugin. It functions but when MyBB added prefixes they didn't work. Also some other problems with cache and some searches just don't work well. The plugin is very out of date.
MySQL 5.6x which will be used on the new DB server does support InnoDB full-text search.

I know it will be a resource hog but I'm praying that the new specs on the DB server will be more than enough. We'll find out once we move and I'll make adjustments as best I can.
Another major change will be that we'll run Nginx in-front of Apache. This will give me much greater control over serving and blocking layer-7 DDOS attacks. We'll still run behind Cloudlfare but this change will add yet another layer to our protection. So far my testing has been excellent and how I have the server setup, as complex as it is, seems to be doing very well. We won't really know this until we're production and site is actually running on the setup.
I'm also 90% done with the pages for automated sticky purchasing. I wanted to complete it but I'm actually having some difficulty with some logic on my code. Mainly to ensure I don't oversell and that the invoice for a new sticky is properly done. Otherwise most of the code and front-end is written. Very close to completing it. I go back and forth between working on it and also working on the server setup.
I'm sorry we haven't moved yet. I'll be honest. I'm a but hesitant because I know the workload will be tremendous the second I move the site. It won't just take me days to get us 100%, it will take me months and the first week or two will be hectic. So I've more or less just waited for better timing to make sure I have at least 5-7 days of open time to do it all.
I'm looking at doing the move on a Monday-Wednesday when the site is less busy. Can't be sure if this will happen this week or I'll wait till next.
On a side note: I'm becoming very frustrated with scammer rep abuse. I don't want this thread to devolve in a discussion on the topic but let's just say things need to change around here. The only reason I mention it is because it's on my mind constantly and I feel like I can't make serious changes until this server move happens. But I want to give notice that things will change and they won't continue to be as they are. I consider the reputation problem a top priority.
I guess that's all I have to say about the matter for now.
Thanks and stay tuned.
