Let's talk about repeated posts / upvoting.

I never noticed this until I found Reddit, (or HN) but I rarely read all the comments on a thread on HF, while on Reddit I'll routinely read every single comment.

I think this is because on Reddit people will just upvote if what they wanted to say was already posted.

Also, because the best content is upvoted to the top, a quality reply can become the most visible reply regardless of when it was posted (up to 1-2 hours for large threads), so quality replies (or jokes) are often upvoted.

And then posters get rewarded with points or replies that are directly tied to posts. The rewards are frequent and timely. Replies to your comment light up your inbox, and your points get tallied. Compared to traditional forums, rep is often random, rarely timely (I sometimes give out rep for posts made years ago) and replies are rare. Sometimes it feels like there's no real interaction.

This leads me to wonder if bulletin boards who order posts based on timestamps will die out.

I don't know; what are your thoughts? Do you like traditional forums better?
Problem with Reddit is that an unpopular opinion that might be true will just get hidden. Basically suppression by the masses. Everyone has an equal opportunity to get their message across on here, even if some have more weight to them versus others (compare ub3rs to normal members for instance).

That's absolutely true.

On Reddit though, you can feel fairly anonymous and therefore more willing to express an unpopular opinion. Assuming people abide by the rules of no multis, many people here care about rep and that may suppress unpopular opinions.
It is true that peer pressure can affect how people present themselves and their ideas. I do think that the pressure of reputation doesn't affect as much as suppression of the masses. The reason is that speaking out against a popular opinion get you reputation in some circles. Even if you end up being wrong a well defended idea and good arguments can still raise your image.
