I need something that I can use to switch between a DisplayPort to a HDMI plug.

I'm going to plug my PC into the monitor via DisplayPort and then my Xbox into the HDMI port and I want to be able to easially switch between them, I'm getting this monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vg248qe

You could get an adapter for your display port into an HDMI connector (I think they exist). Then buy a HDMI switch so you only have to press a single button to change the display.

I was just giving him another option if he/she didn't want to have to cycle through the options on the monitor and just use an external solution.

Maybe, but.
You are telling him to buy 2 things to achieve the exact same thing.
And as its a monitor, not a TV, the chances are quite big he will be sitting near enough to just reach out his rand to press the button.
And with nearly every single monitor, you just press the button and it auto switches to any other available video signal, and since there are only 2 video signals to begin with ...


I could not think of a worse idea.
