I dropped C++ years ago. I moved into high level languages like OCaml and Clojure because they are 'extremely' challenging and present the user with some very sophisticated ideas.

It must be tough when you can't just achieve everything you want through low level , hackish work arounds, eh?

You can achieve most things with hacks but you miss-out on all the interesting stuff that the academic types are pursuing. Just take a look at Haskell or OCaml or Clojure/Lisp and you'll uncover a whole different world of programming filled with unusual, brilliant ideas.

Ooops. Forgot to mention Scala too.
