How do I change a static IP address? Or how do I change my static IP to a dynamic IP?

Just got hit off by a couple of douchebags, remained offline for about a whole hour because of my static IP address.

How do I change my static IP? Or even better, how do I convert FROM static to dynamic? That would be easier and way better considering the fact that I can change my IP easily if I were to unplug my router for 30 seconds.
According to my knowledge (I'm networking tech student) ISPs don't assign static addresses unless you explicitly ask for it. They have their own DHCP server which leases IP addresses for their customers, but their lease times are longer than usual (several days). When you finish your lease and you are still online, DHCP server tend to give you same IP address as you have leased before.
So changing IP isn't so easy, you should talk to your ISP or go offline for several days 🤣
ISPs rerarely give their customers static IP adresses. I can remember some Motorola Modems from "KabelDeutschland" had the option to renew the ip adress which was usually a static adress back these days.
Just call your ISP and tell them what happend they'll assign you a new IP.

Simple and clean option is to change the wan MAC address in your router.
That should give you a new "wan/internet" ip.
Code
If you're going to hardcode a plaintext root password, make sure it's at least eight characters and has two numbers or special characters.
Contact your ISP, tell them what happened, and ask for a dynamic IP address. Or you could do what the above user said and change your router's MAC address.

The poor remain poor by acting rich.
Your IP address is assigned by your ISP, some ISPs offer options to change between dynamic and static but others may not. There are some pitfalls to dynamic IP addresses, ISP's typically have a limited number of IP's to assign and that means you recycle IP's other people have used, and if they've been bad online and had that IP address banned from some service then if you inherit the IP address you'll also be banned.

It's probably best to call your ISP and explain and see if they will swap your IP address, if not then you might be faced with shopping around for a new ISP which offers a dynamic IP address. When looking for a dynamic IP address, remember that ISPs might cycle them out at different rates, some might give you a new IP address every time you reconnect, others might have a minimum usage time of hours/days/weeks/months.
As others have said, your best course of action is to contact your ISP and ask for a new IP address to be assigned. Once you're back online, make sure you're safe from being resolved by keeping information to yourself, like any online user-names (Skype) or PII.
You can try changing your MAC Address, it works for me ;)
