Who's been to an anime con?

Hey guys new member. Glad I found this section :)

Who here has been to a con? I went to Ohayocon last weekend...it was my first one and I had a lot of fun. I tried going as Mikasa but my outfit wasn't very good >_< met a lot of cool people though! i would love to hear about your experiences. i'll probably end up going to some more during the summer
I've been to a thing called Kawaii Kon which is a thing that takes place in Hawaii

Multi day cons in my experience are horrible. The novelty wears off after a few hours and can get grating after a while. What's worse if there's no interesting panels and you end up circling the whole convention center a lot of times.

The merchandise is also way more expensive even though akihabara is just another train stop away.

I felt the same way. The multiday pass was $60 but I ended up just going for one day and it was $10

Find some cosplay grills and have a 4 sum.
I've been to the two conventions around my area.
Anime Central, ACen for short, is a big thing. Even the club at my school advertises that they go to ACen every year and the CTA buses advertise ACen. It's a great event with raves at night. I swear to god, the girls that come to the rave are cute and dress good. Some cosplay, and some dress really nice.

Anime Midwest is another one I usually go to. There's not as much people or events, but it's still a fun event with a rave each night.
I've been to two different anime conventions over the last six years. Comparatively, I believe they pale to America and Japan's cons, but they're monster-cons in their own right, so the I what I attend are still quite large (20K).

While I have attended, it's always been as a volunteer. I believe we generally have great content spread throughout the weekend, so it's never a dull moment. Due to my volunteer duties, I don't get to see everythingp I might like, but the atmosphere is pleasant. It's a pleasure to see the hard-work some cosplayers put in their costumes.

I'm sure it varies from con-to-con, but I've found the prices of anime/manga merchandise to actually be cheaper during the event. I presume this is due to the increased sales makes up for the lowered prices. My only local anime store has generous discounts during the weekend as well. I only purchase goods at that time of year or when their are clearances on stuff I want.
I went to one. Forgot the name of it. Didn't care too much.

What do you even do at one of these events? Is it just socially awkward nerds attempting to socialize and hit on girls with boobs? That is basically how the internet portrays it.

Been to AnimeNorth twice. Enjoyed it immensely. It's multiday and I enjoy all the days.

Of course, much of the population is just college aged guys hitting on cosplayers, and yeah that's kinda boring, as is spending all your time in the merchandise area, but for me the con was really good because of panels. There were many panels every day all day about many different things. For example, there was one panel dedicated to discussing and sharing old RPGs on all systems, like Bahamut's Lagoon and Vagrant Hearts, etc. then there are other panels dedicated to the fandom of one particular anime like the Monogatari series. Then theres even artsy panels where you make stuff.

I guess if I were to go to a con with just cosplayers and merchandise crap I'd get hella bored hella fast, but I love having discussions with like minded people at panels. Very very fun, plus I've met many cool people having lunch at cons sitting near cosplayers.
I would also love to go to one with a rave :P
