I currently have a web site in HTML which is live.

I am wanting to change it over to worpress.

Issue is i dont want to remove the current HTML site offline.. as it may effect googles ranking .

So how can i transfer this all over, now if i use a sub folder google will start indexing this as it will be seen as duplicate content.

So is there a way to make or create a worpress site without making it live on google?.

Or is there a way i can preview it other than the browser?.

No beacuse as even doing this google may still index the site , and i dont want to take the current HTML offline.

You can just start building your wordpress site on a sub domain and use the plugin Under Construction by Noah Kagan to make it unavailable (HTTP 503) for search engines :)

Of course you'll be able to login and modify it as you can access it once you login as an admin.

Create a second installation on e.g. a development subdomain. Go to your WordPress settings > Privacy > Block search engines.

When done recreating your HTML website in WordPress, simply change the domain name and transfer the files to their correct directory.
