Hi, I'm quite new in coding, can anyone help me get started on a project? I don't know how to start. I know how to fill it up, i just need a draft code.

It's just a small program that will allow you to scan barcodes and depending on the code, will run a certain batch file. Let's say there are 5 barcodes and 5 batch files.

I have planned the form and it will consist of a textbox and a run button (for manual inputting incase there's a problem with the scanner.

okay.. i got started on it and i now have a problem, im using VB6 running on xp for some reason that i think theres no time to explain why. i cant make the shell (<path>), vbNormalFocus to work. please help.

Uhm, a simpler question, do you have coding knowledge or is this your first project?

You'd need to use API's. Not sure if there's any free ones.

Or are you planning to do the whole thing programatically?

i solved the problem now, i used ShellExecute, im sorry for not giving details, it's just i want something to start on.

anyways, i have another problem, i dont have anything yet to start with, that's why im asking for something to start on. i have a textfile(will be named directories.dat if possible) with directories and their corresponding letters. example:
A c:\folder1\100\x.exe
B c:\folder2\200\y.exe
C c:\folder3\300\z.exe

what i want is for the program to open that certain exe file when the letter is called. (A->x.exe B->y.exe C->z.exe).
the form should have 1 textbox to input the letter, and a run button.

i hope to get a sample soon. it's in VB6, btw. thanks in advance!

i have basic background on coding. i just didnt thought that the barcode reader would work like a keyboard thats why i didnt know what to do first. and its done now. thanks man.

all of what? it's just that. a program with a textbox that accepts a specific input, that calls and opens an exe file by crawling through a .dat(directory) file. i just need a draft program and i would improve it. thanks! :) again on VB6 if possible.

All you've done so far is say what you want. How are we supposed to help with that? Do it for you?

I do not know how vb6 could launch an .exe file using a path from a separate text file.  Please read thread from the start to understand.

You can start by suggesting vb6 functions/codes/syntax. That's if you really want to help and not just bash beginners with rhetorical questions. Please stop acting cool and stop replying if you just want to increase post count.

We are not your servants. There are plenty of tutorials available to help you get started. You will be able to code what you want within a day or so. Try coding it yourself, do research on it & then if you still can't get it, post your code, what errors it's causing & what you have already attempted & we will be glad to help you, but if you have put no effort in to begin with, don't expect us to.

Also, VB6 is extremely outdated & a pain to get help with. I highly recommend you do this in Visual Basic or C#.
