Hey guys. Heads up first of all, this thread contains a lot of text, plus a lot of ranting and raving. If you don't like lots of text, your TLDR is: "Im deleting my facebook account because facebook is stupid.". If you hate rant threads, this isn't your thread.
For the past month, facebook has been irritating me with a few minor issues. These include small nuisances such as "Do you know <insert person you know IRL but have had no digital connection to>", "Add your number to facebook so we can find more of your friends!" and even "Your friend has invited you to play <anything>ville!"... as well as larger and more frustrating details such as when you get a notification telling you that one of your friends has just made a post, but when you click on it, it has week-old comments! Even OP's timestamp will show it was only made "Just Now" to add to the illusion.
- Do you know a person who you have had no digital connection to, but know IRL? Like... how the fuck do you even know this Facebook?
- In-app advertisements on facebook., and facebook app advertisements.
- A forced feed of people you may know.
- Pokes.
- Facebook game invites
- Delayed notifications
- Lying about those delayed notifications, by pretending they were made just now.
- Not informing me about the events I've said I'd goto until AFTER the event is over.
- Constantly stealing my number from my phone when I log in via the App.
- Banning my posts when I'm posting shit that makes america look bad. (For instance, statistics about gun control compared to other countries and opinions on gun control)
The final straw today was the events. I had a speed running event I was going to goto, and a friends birthday party. I missed the speed running event by 6 hours and the birthday party by 2 hours because facebook refused to tell me about it until about 7 pm. These are events I wanted to goto for at least a month, and facebook refuses to tell me about them on time. It made me look like a bad friend, all because I depended on it to remind me about an event.
So I've deactivated my facebook account, and I will never be using facebook again.
On a semi-related matter regarding having someone over for dinner, I'm not going to accept waiting around for people anymore, because I've been waiting all day to hear if this one person is going to be coming over for dinner, and he refuses to tell me or my mother until literally 15 minutes ago. I mean, I've been fucking hungry for hours, waiting on this cunt...
Thank you for hearing out my rant. It feels good to get this off my chest, and every thread view makes me feel that much better. And I'm sorry for putting you through all that text.

I don't think Facebook is stupid, but some of the things you pointed out would be some of there lower tier features.
Facebook whether you can see it or not is an incredible social media platform that enables the sharing of pictures and information with people all around the world to a standard which probably would of been unbelievable 20 years ago.
It's hard to cut the bullshit out of Facebook, but deleting the people sending you dumb invites, getting adblock and making sure you don't have junk pages liked really makes it not too bad.

Heres the thing. I only keep my closest friends on facebook and even so I get invites from these people. I've spoken to them, and they claim they are unaware they sent me an invite (further investigation concluded that it was the apps fault for not making it clear enough, however this is something facebook should step in on). I don't have many pages liked, but i have over 400 users blocked simply because my friends like something of theirs and apparently facebook thinks I want to know all about it.
Also adblock isn't available for my mobile device. I'll let you determine what word is the keyword in that sentence.
Lastly, I was already pissed off with its privacy invading qualities, such as stealing my contact details whenever i logged in with a compatible device... somehow accurately indicating I know people on facebook that I have met IRL... and more. I also despise the idea that employers will crawl through your facebook profile or a facebook profile by the same name to find reasons not to employ you. I prefer instant messaging platforms anyway, such as MSN (before it became Skype and simultaneously became shit), and Steam.

Eh.. Hate to break it to you but I guess the mainstream social media isn't catering to you. I am sure you have, but have you gone through all of the settings for your account? There are tonnes of pages with small settings that can improve your experience. I understand your frustration though, I miss old MSN.

That's your fault, the final reason. They give you a date and time. Put it in your phone or wrote it in a calender. You can't expect it to do everything.
