Desktop Broke, no display on monitor [help]

Hey HF, before I start I am just going to say that I am fairly clueless when it comes to anything hardware related.

Okay so got a desktop (from a friend), sold it to me cheap because he couldn't be bothered to try fix it himself, the problem being that the monitor displays nothing, just a blank screen with "No video available" as if the monitor is not connected.

Once it did come on however it just displayed a black screen with a blinding underscore, after awhile it cut off again and went back to "No video available". 😧

I have tried connecting the desktop to both a monitor and a tv using a hdmi cable and both have the same results, also tried removing the cmos battery from the motherboard and placing it back in which I read might fix the problem, however that did not change anything either.

The OS is windows 7, other than that I know nothing really about the desktop other than it used to be able to play most games on high :P

If any one knows any other possible fixes please let me know, really want this desktop fixed 🤝

No one? D: I really need this fixed x-x
this sounds pretty much like standing in front of a burning car and trying to fix a tire... it could be pretty much anything but to help you out a little :
the blinking underscore tells us that he didnt even get to the boot menu which usually means one of your parts is broken . in that case either the gpu or if you only got RAM-stick , that ones broken .. so try to plug in a different gpu from another pc and try to boot , if that doesnt work , switch the next part .. and so on .. in the end it could be a broken motherboard aswell .. trial and error .. if you need any further assistance , pm me .

It has a gpu however I went to try remove and reinsert the ram sticks to notice that one was slightly loose (lever was weird) pushed the lever back and it booted up, however now its booted up it states 4gb of ram (it has 8gb)

also stated cmos settings wrong however I am guessing that is because i moved the cmos battery before, i pressed f1 to boot and then it came up "entering boot menu..." and then seems to have froze, going to give it some time and then restart if nothing happens

Will keep the thread updated if anything new happens 🤝

managed to get the computer to boot, almost 100% sure my one of, if not both of my ram sticks might be causing the problem, got a memory_management blue screen, currently trying startup repair though I doubt that will do anything.
the leavers should be pushed down on both sides so the ram is fixed in there .. how about the heat management ? and try to take one ramstick out to see which one is failing ,could be that one is broken and needs to be replaced

--- off to bed now ,gl on finding your problem , will be back tomorrow

after the startup repair it seems to be working perfectly, other than saying I have 8gb (4gb available), so just need to replace whichever ram stick is broken :)

Thanks for the suggestions 🤝

It could also be ram stick locations, you can either find the manual online or just trial and error to see if the full 8gb shows up by moving them. If it's only 2 slots disregard this 😏
glad i could help you : )
for the ram : you should get the exact same one that is in there and if its an old(/shitty) one think about replacing both of em.
