Blizzard is fucking greedy (Nostalrius shutdown rant)

Do any of you guys know about WoW and the private server Nostalrius? Well, it closed. It had tens of thousands of active players, with millions of hours spent playing, raiding, getting gear, and all this other shit. It had a vibrant playerbase that had been nurtured and growing for the last year and a half or so. Full of excited players that had a passion for the oldschool version of World of Warcraft from 2006-2007. They also were non-profit, I will mention. They hired developers, paid for the servers, etc. all out of their own money. No money went into their own pockets for personal gain.

I personally think Blizzard are greedy cunts for closing down such an active and time/money invested project, with thousands of players. Over the years, Blizzard has been negotiated with and pleaded to for the releasing of legacy/vanilla servers. The developers and higher ups at Blizzard respond by acting like DICKS. They don't even acknowledge the true desire for vanilla/legacy servers to be released. When asked at Blizzcon if they would ever consider legacy servers, the cunts on stage laughed and said "You THINK you want that, but you really don't." implying that people are just delusional, and don't know what they want.

So then when Nostalrius, a grassroots, non-profit project decides to make their own legacy servers, out of LOVE FOR THE OLD GAME AND THE COMMUNITY THAT WANTS IT, they take it down and literally fucking sue them. Yes, it's greedy. Yes, it's apathetic. But what it truly comes down to, in my opinion, is that Blizzard doesn't want to admit that their current game is fucking garbage. Their current game, ever since the Cataclysm expansion, has been turning more and more into a repetitive Facebook game, and less of an exciting, passionate, and social experience that everyone originally signed up to play and spend hours on.

In conclusion, I believe the situation could have been dealt with much more logically, and much more in a compromising manner. However, as I stated before, I believe Blizzard is too arrogant and up their own ass to release vanilla servers. It would be admitting to an extent "yeah, the older game was better." and they don't want to admit that. They'd rather say "NO FUCK YOU PLAY THE NEW GAME, IT'S BETTER OKAY? YOU DON'T WANT LEGACY SERVERS, THE NEW GAME IS BETTER AND NEW OKAY IT HAS BATTLE PETS AND CONVENIENT DUNGEON/RAID FINDING, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO SOCIALIZE ANYMORE. IT'S BETTER OK? YOU DON'T WANT VANILLA. TRUST US. THAT SHIT WAS TRASH." They could have hired the Nostalrius devs, flew them to California, and paid them to host and develop legacy servers alongside and WITH Blizzard. That would've made good business, and they would have immediately started making massive profits. They could have tried negotiating with the Nostalrius community about a reasonable way to handle it, considering the magnitude of the community, and how much time, money, and effort was put into the entire thing by both the players, and the people responsible for creating it. All of it was a labor of love, and from simple fanboyism for the old game.
Where the fuck is the tldr? I'm not reading all that.

I thought of making a TL;DR but it's difficult to describe in a few sentences. If anybody can read it and make a TL;DR, I will gladly add it to the original thread.

Nah. Excalibur is very insignificant compared to Nost, with only 2,500 players online at a time, tops. Nostalrius had 10,000+ at ALL times, often into the mid ten thousands.
Not sure if it would help but.

But I feel like it might not be enough players still. Yes, Nost had 800k+ registered accounts and 150k active. But doesn't WoW still have a bunch of more subs than that?

Yes. Due to the disenfranchisement of people that enjoyed pre-cata World of Warcraft, their subs have gone down. However, they still have over 5,000,000 active subscribers, making them about $75,00,000 a month, or almost a billion dollars per year from WoW subs alone. That does not include the money made from other games, such as the heavily popular Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 and it's DLC, and Hearthstone. Also; overpriced fees for services such as changing your name in WoW, transferring your character to a new server, changing your characters appearance/race/faction, etc. That probably makes them a huge chunk of cash, too.
Can I just tell you know, all gaming companies care about is money. They dont care about you and never will.

Yes, that is apparently obvious with Blizzard. But #1: They could've made money and a compromise with Nostalrius by incorporating them into Blizzard and releasing official legacy/vanilla servers. #2: Even for Blizzard, this really is a low-blow. They used to be a company with integrity that cared about it's fans, but money and their ego got to their heads. It really did.
