Detailed Installation Guide + Get High Quality Support

Getting Started With Mybb

Getting started with mybb takes little to zero requirements. You will however need a domain & hosting, Access to ftp is also required.

You can find a cheap domain at 1and1.com.
You can find cheap hosting here or on godaddy.com.

You can find the download here mybb.com or You can download it here.

Once you have all the requirements you can get started with installation.

Setting Up Your Database

First thing we should do after we have our FTP client, download mybb forum files, and our hosting up because we should start on making our new database to run this forum.

Make sure to get a healthy database name. Sometimes I will encrypt my database name, Like so for more protection. Instead of "netflixandweedhftut" it will be "8ceda668132fb21c0587cc2c28386889".

On our next step we will need to configure our database (username & password).

When it comes time to set your Privileges you should then check all of them.

These are for mysql and what the user has access to do inside of phpMyAdmin but in this case we only have 1 Mysql administrator and that is you. Make sure to remember the information you used to make your database. After that you can close you host, You don't need them anymore.

Installing Your Forum Software

Installation is pretty easy, Just follow these steps and should flow right by. Get connected with your FTP client to your hosting, You will need you host: localhost (Default) (Hard time connecting go into your cpanel on left it should tell you your website ip, Use that.), Username (What you use to sign into cpanel with.), & password (Password you use to sign into cpanel with.)

Open your download zip file.

Navigate into the upload folder, Select all the contents inside and drag & drop them into public_html on your FTP client.

Once you have dropped it in it should extract the archive then start uploading. (It won't extract on your computer, Just as a temp file.) It may take some time or not any time at all depending on your upload speed and your hosting speed.

Once you have finished uploading your forum software files, Visit this link.
Code
http://you-forum/install

It looks like this if it was uploaded correctly.

Once you have navigated to the "Database Configuration" part of the installation we will then need to enter the information we used to create our database using the wizard on our cpanel.

After you have entered the information it should look something like this and for more security with your database, Change your prefix to something else.

When completed simply click "Next" to continue. It will then insert the tables and rows needed for mybb to run correctly. Click "Next" until you reach "Board Configuration". Once all the information has been filled it should look like this some what.

Next step it really simple all you have to do is add what your desired username and password is, It's always a good thing to a working email address or a webmaster email address you have created.

When you click "Next" after the screen above you are finished and it was successful you will get this message prompt.

Wait there is a little more, We need to delete our "install" folder and change "htaccess.txt" to ".htaccess". Once those have been corrected you can now go to your forum link, Login if you aren't already and start designing and adding to make your community great.

Some Quick Tips

The best way of going about building a successful community to purchase a custom theme unless you will be doing it yourself, Add some categories and forums but not to many and not to little. Get all sections with some good amount of content. Now finally get some paid advertisement for your forum. You want to be as unique as possible and add some features that aren't to common on a forum.

As for security I know there is a couple vulnerabilities to check into such as search.php, myawards.php and few more have them. FIcons you can upload a shell to so be careful who you add as an administrator. You should always back up your forum on a decent basis as anything could happen and no one want's to start over. Also make sure you don't have too many staff members as it is looked down towards and is almost useless starting off as you don't have much content to moderate.

Excuse me? I do not have any other accounts here.

I am just trying to help the community and your negative feedback does not impact me what so ever. Someone as untrustworthy as you I wouldn't even loan my collar for my cat to.

I am not sure who "Medicinal" is but I bought the domain and hosting from the user "Shoot". It's little kids like you that make good people quit communities. If I was a multi account I'm sure I would be banned already.
Regardless of that multiaccounter nonsense, a nice tutorial.
