So you want a badass sig that blends in with HF's background? Or maybe just want to know what clipping layers do and how awesome they are. It helps give your image flow and other fun effects, you gotta have creativity and use it correctly, but i'm just gonna go over how to actually use it and make stuff like this;

So everyone loves this style sig for whatever reason and it's super easy.
1) Get an image and make a text layer. You want the image layer above the text layer.

2) Press alt+left click with your mouse in between the two layers.
(Your mouse should turn into an arrow pointing down and square when holding alt between layers.)
After, it should look like this in your layers windows.

Clipping layers basically fill in everything that's not transparent in with the layer above (layer 1 in my example). So with these you could make something like this:

So to make something like this;

You need to first start the whatever and get everything how you want it before you start clipping.
(You can smudge with clipping layers and layer masks for fun effects too. But that's for another time.)
So lets get to using clipping layers to make effects like in the examples above.
1) Get your sig to the state you want it before you start clipping:

2) Make a new layer

3) On the new layer go to Image > Apply Image

4) Make another new layer and put it below the Applied Image, then hold down alt and click in between the two layers and you should get something like this:

5) Whatever you put in the newest layer (that's empty) is the layer mask for the applied image. So, you can use brushes and smudge effects to do something like this:
(You have to move the Applied Image to notice a difference, because the layer mask just exposes the applied image, which is a copy of your sig.)
So what I did below is used a splatter brush on the Clipping Layer then moved and rotated the Applied Image around to fit the brush/clipping layer.
