Pokemon Go

Gym tips & how to catch more Pokemon!

You can easily capture gyms by simply following these tips and take your time instead of tapping on the screen as fast as you can.

When you are battling with another Pokemon in a gym the most important thing that you want to do is watch out when the edges of your screen flash yellow. At that point simply swipe left or right to avoid a little or no damage at all (95% of time taking in mind special attacks).
Here are some other tips:
  • When you just enter the battle mode your enemy will attack you twice. Simply do not attack right away but dodge the first two attacks

  • When you dodge an attack you can perform 2 quick attacks by yourself (dodge, attack 2x, dodge and so on)

Following these tips you are more likely to capture a gym if you have a Pokemon with CP less than the Pokemon owning the gym.

Now that I covered the gym tips here is a tip on how to capture Pokemons more easily and not to be dependent on the nearby function which can be buggy from times to times.

Niantic before publishing Pokemon GO, created a game called Ingress which is an Augmented Reality game aswell. This can help out if you play Pokemon GO to find your nearby Pokestops, Gyms and even finding areas where Pokemons are most likely to spawn.
  • After installing Ingress and making an account there you can use the online site to find nearby Pokestops and Gyms by going to this site: https://www.ingress.com/intel

Simply type in your home adress and zoom in while following the road. Icons like this will most like represent a Pokestop:

  • Pokemon Spawn points are linked to XM generation in Ingress.
In Ingress you can see these blue dots across the map. Areas where you can see more of these blue dots are more likely to spawn Pokemons.
    For example:

Pokemon GO uses a similar system but instead of the blue dots, you see the leaves.

Thanks to Reddit on the last tip

Yep. A while ago they were taking submissions for Portals in that game (those are Pokestops now in Pokemon GO). That's why you encounter a Pokestop in weird places sometimes.
You know there's an easier method right? The game accounts for types.
E.g.: fire > Grass > Water > Fire and what not. You can have a CP as low as 2-300
and still go against someone with 700+ CP and win. But dodging is critical.

Yep that's why I bolded the word "doding".
You can take out really powerful gyms which can be frustrating for the owners but it really rewards you.
Thanks man actually didnt know alot of this stuff. will help me out alot! i think they need to make it harder to take gyms though like you can use all of your pokemon against there 1?

Sure, I mean Roger Waters already made a guide covering most of the stuff regarding Pokemon GO so you can give it a try:

I will add more stuff to thread if there are any more useful stuff I encounter.
